Please Can Somebody Confirm That I Have Got This Right About Teachers License

Featured Replies

I have a previous 'spent' conviction for ABH from 2002 for which I got a 6 month (Do three) custodial sentence.

I have read into the teachers license and I understand that I cannot get one due to my criminal record but....

It seems to me that if you stick to teaching adults in language schools you dont need a license?

But can you still get a work permit to be a teacher without a teachers license?

e.g. if you tell them that you will only be teaching adults and not in normal schools and have the relevant supporting paperwork from the prospective employer?

and.. can they really check your criminal record? would spent convictions show up on there checks?

I will be grateful fo any help/advice.

Patch.

Hi,

The criminal background check is only sporadically enforced and certainly I know in Chiang Mai it's never been requested. Some consulates do not request a police check to obtain a non-immigrant B visa but just about all embassies will. Before your your school applies for a work permit they will register you with their local MOE office, your local MOE office is supposed to contact the Thai equivalent of their FBI to see if you have a record here or are wanted by interpol. I have never heard of it being required to obtain a TL.

You should be OK if you have a non-imm B already. If you don't, choose the right consulate to obtain one.

A language school is a cat 15/2 school and you won't need a TL.
