April 20, 200917 yr Hi does anyone know what the limit is you can take money out of a bank(go inside)from a uk debit card i know the limit is £300 in the atm but need over 100kbaht.
April 20, 200917 yr The most I have asked for was £1100 and there was no problem, as a debit card you should be able to draw out as much as you have in the account up to the legal limit for removing cash from your home country (currently £10,000 I think) anything over that needs to be explained e.g. buying a car etc . Coincidently I am off to the bank in 10 mins to draw out a lump sum as the Thai Banks introduced a 150baht charge on atm withdrawals on foreign bank cards effective 17th April. Will be interested to see what they charge me over the counter.
April 20, 200917 yr Author ok thanks im off down the bank soon too.do you know what they would charge me in the bank?
April 20, 200917 yr ... Thai Banks introduced a 150baht charge on atm withdrawals on foreign bank cards effective 17th April. Will be interested to see what they charge me over the counter. Please let us know and, if you don't mind, which banks are involved (UK and Thai). I can't draw much more than 15k THB on my nationwide per day (the GBP300 limit mentioned above), so I have been doing so for the last two weeks and stashing it in a local account.
April 20, 200917 yr ^ That's 15k by ATM, haven't tried over-the-counter yet. ^ You might also post your findings in this thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thai-Banks-S...0&start=250

My local Kasikorn is in they sticks and they have a 20,000 over-the-counter limit (although I did not get charged).
April 20, 200917 yr Note to all, I've had my Debit card skimmed in the last couple of weeks, The only places I used my card was the following. 1. New Sony Store near Marco 2. ATM by the 7/11 just passed the Big Buddha 3. ATM just outside the Bangkok Airways office in the airport, My bank told me this was the most likely place where it was copied - she told me what these people hang around airport atms for a few hours and skim as many cards as possible then jump on a plane and do their theft from the safety of a new location. They stole Thousands of Dollars and all purchases were done in NY city. The bank said they would reimburse every penny which was a relief. you have been warned – make sure you check out the ATM before you use it.

BUt the airport scam is annoying, i will remember to keep more baht leaving the country.... Anyway a mechanical skimmer is visible, the atm surface must be clean particularly where you enter the card. In europe the card readers usually has an S profile, to prevent attaching another reader.

Not sure as to what the official limit is but I have withdrawn 120Kbaht at Thaipanit Bank ( Purple sign, sorry about the spelling ). Just popped in with Debit card and Passport. Didnt have any trouble.
April 20, 200917 yr Yup forgot the passport today so couldn't get a lump sum so reverted to the atm, no charges shown on the slip and when i checked nationwide I had been debited at the rate of 52.32 baht to the pound which compares favorably with the Bangkok Bank rate of 50.76 baht to the pound today. there si another thread running on the introduction of the new charges if anyone is interested they can google it on here.

Could equate to not far off 500baht of charges per week . Going to be a bit irritating if I have to take Passport and withdraw cash over the counter every time. Fingers crossed any charges will only apply to ATM withdrawls?
April 20, 200917 yr I used my RBS debit card last week (just to check) to make a 10 K withdrawal and noticed in my statement yesterday a debit of 10020 bt..plus the usual rip off charges by the vulpture.(RBS) My Nationwide however had no additions or charges + had a better exchange rate.

Some good tips on how to protect yourself though. What with the 150 baht ATM charge I think that I will use the banks whenever possible from now on.

April 21, 200917 yr And Nationwide will be charging 1% as of June 1st for ATM withdrawls, so 15,000 will cost 300 baht in total....thats 2% so very expensive and counteracts almost any interest received on savings as their best bond only pays 3.25% interest gross...
April 21, 200917 yr I am left wondering how long it will be before the Thai banks impose the same levy on ANY type of withdrawal? I cant honestly see them standing for an exodus from the ATMs towards getting a human interaction by going inside and drawing the cash out. With all the extra workload on the bank staff i fear it might well only be a matter of time Penkoprod

Yes it was indeed an SCB ATM...Seacon Sq.
