Dear All,

I have some questions to ask in order to immigrate to Canada. I will provide you a brief detail about me first.

Currently, I'm 24 years old and doing my master degree (Master International tourism management) in Germany (since 2008). I'm here as my parents are my sponsorship. I'm going to graduate in September 2009 and I'd like to get internship or a job in Canada but the problem is I don't have a work experience as they require (so, I think, that could be a problem)

My bf is Canadian and he's the same age as me (24). He just spent 3 months with me in Germany and now ,he's back to Canada. He only has a high school certificate and It does not seem like he can be my sponsorship.

The question is

In case,that my bf and I would like to get married. What qualify does he need to be?

I have traveled to Canada before (for 10 days , in August 2008 and I did not have any problem for applying)

Any suggestions would be very useful and appreciate

hi, okay i got this email recently from immigration outlining the requirements for sponsorship regarding marriage....hope that helps. maybe not as difficult as you are thinking.

Sir, Madam,

Thank you for contacting the Call Centre. Following today's conversation, March 19 2009, I am pleased to provide you with the requested information:

You may be able to sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child if you:

  • are 18 years of age or older;
  • are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
  • *live in Canada;
  • sign a contract (i.e. an undertaking) promising you will make sure the sponsored person(s)’ **basic requirements are met;

  • and the person being sponsored sign an agreement stating that you understand your shared obligations and responsibilities;
  • are not subject to sponsorship bars (i.e. not eligible to sponsor).

Please note that there is no minimum necessary income when you sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent children who do not have dependent children of their own.

*Canadian citizens living outside Canada can sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner and/or dependent children who have no dependent children of their own. If this situation applies to you, you must show that you will return to Canada to live when the person you sponsor becomes a permanent resident in Canada. Canadians travelling outside Canada as tourists are not considered to be living outside Canada. Please note that Permanent Residents living outside Canada cannot sponsor family members while they are living out of the country.

**Basic needs are food, clothing, shelter and other basic things for everyday living. This also includes dental care, eye care and other health needs not covered by public health services.

You are ineligible to sponsor if:

  • you are in prison;
  • you are an undischarged bankrupt;
  • you are in receipt of social assistance for a reason other than disability;
  • you were convicted of a sexual offence or an offence against the person with respect to
    • one of your family members or relatives,
    • one of your spouse’s or common-law partner’s family members or relatives, or
    • your conjugal partner or one of your conjugal partner’s family members or relatives, unless you were granted a pardon or five years have passed after the expiration of the sentence imposed on you;

    [*]you were adopted outside Canada and subsequently obtained a revocation of your adoption for the purpose of sponsoring an application for permanent residence by your biological parent;

    [*]you are subject to a removal order; or

    [*]have been convicted of a serious criminal offence, have provided false information to Immigration, or have not met conditions of entry.
