I've checked all over the net trying to get a one-way flight from BKK to Beijing next month and the lowest I can find is around 20,000 baht on kayak- it's crazy! I'm not too pleased I was already forced to buy a roundtrip ticket from Narita to BKK since the one-way for THAT was 30,000 and the roundtrip was 20,000 . But c'mon!!!! Am I going to be forced again to buy a useless roundtrip ticket to Beijing?? Kayak does offer a $USD 270 flight on China Southern, but "you have to contact the airline directly" and I have little hope of that working out?

Did you try Bangkok>> Hong Kong >> Beijing?

edit: i checked the 9th and the 16th and a few other dates. Both of them are 15 000 baht.

Agreed. Another alternative would be Bangkok - Hong Kong, then cross the border into Shenzhen and pick up a domestic flight to Beijing. You can check the cost of internal Chinese flights and book online via elong dot net. They will usually let you pick up tickets at the airport. There is a direct ferry from Hong Kong (I think from HK airport itself, but not sure about this) to Shenzhen Airport. More hassle to do it this way for sure, but definitely a lot cheaper.

Cathy Pacific Airways, 15,735 baht -- including tax/surcharge, Bangkok >> Hong Kong (oprated by Dragonair) >> Beijing.

Cheapest by far is direct with Sri Lankan. 8570 baht inclusive.
