Visiting Russia

Featured Replies

I'm visiting Russia in August. Does a UK passport holder need a visa? (flying from Thailand)

Thanks in advance

Yes, I think you do need a visa to Russia. After looking it up on the internet you need a letter of invitation aswell which can possibly be got through a visa agency.

There is a Russian Embassy in Bangkok too ------

Thanks for the helpful replies and information. I need a tourist visa.

Cheers

The only countries, that don't need visa to visit Russia for the period of no more, then 30 days are: Thailand and some CIS countries.

You can get tourist visa very easy, invitation letter can be provided by any travel agency.

And never overstay your Russian visa. It's not so easy as in Thailand. In case of overstay, you will be required to get special "Exit Visa", without one you will not be permitted to leave the country. Getting Exit Visa, will take you about 2-3 weeks(in case, you will have Russian person assist you).

Make sure your invitation states the correct point of entry. Once you have the invitation, you must state that same port of entry in the visa application. When you apply at the Russian Federation Embassy in Bangkok for the visa, they will check that your requested point of entry is the same as stated on the invitation. They will also ask you to state what point of exit will be (if different from entry). Once the visa is issued, that information is part of the visa and if you try to enter/leave by another port, you will have a problem.

Having said all that, their Bangkok Embassy did a decent job; I applied in the morning, wandered over to Patpong and had lunch at the Madrid, then went back in the afternoon and picked up the visa.

Do the Russians have a deal to enter Thailand without a visa etc ?

Yes they have a bilateral agreement.

You might want to save this link to a file that lists the countries and the kind of entries they get. If a country is not the list then they have to get a visa before they leave.
