Cat Cdma

Featured Replies

Need some experiences on CAT CDMA please? Is it a stable reliable system? I.e on more than 50% of time and faster than dial up (which is all I have now with GDM).

I would much appreciate experiences before paying 10kB for the USB modem (I think they cost around that). What is the monthly price plan structure and is it open to foreigners?

Thanks

There's a modem for 7500 Baht or so as well (can do EV-DO Rev. A which is important b/c CAT also sells some modems that only do 1x which is dead slow).

Cost is around 800 BHT/month for unlimited.

Reliability - well it's OK for websurfing but for the past 2, 3 weeks there have been constant mini interruptions which make downloading and VPN a pain. Before that it was great. No idea if they are going to fix it soon. See the other thread...

if you live near phuket i can sell you mine for 5k, ive used it about 10times. I bought it thinking it would be good for backup work connection, but its not.

It's fast, its alwways on. but they have '2secs timeouts' every couple mins which makes direct constant connections to a server impossible.

99% of users wont notice it, but its useless to me.

as long as im not working with it, its very good. it's really nice if you have to spend time in an hospital, at the airport. in a café. etc etc. that way you'Re always safe and u dont have to pay crooks.

The Novatel Ovation MC727 is 8250 THB. They also offer the C-Motech CCU-680 which is a bear to get working under Linux for 10,990.

I use it up in Nakhon Sawan and it's ok. Definitely faster than dial-up and better than EDGE. I actually ran on EDGE for quite some time and it's better if you do traveling since CAT does not offer service in the Bangkok and Eastern Seaboard area. I've also thought about purchasing another modem since my router accepts them and I could channel bond them to provide fail-safe operation and higher speed.

I don't use it for Skype or any mission critical work; I can't comment on drop outs but for torrenting or watching flash online it's quite good.

My wife has the service under her name; I believe that they wanted a work permit and/or whatever so it was easiest to do it that way.
