Advise On Port Forwarding Settings Is Required

Well, here's the case. I purchased a new router.

Zyxel P-660HW-T1 v2 (wireless router)

That little thing works great but got a small problem.

I set up port forwarding and the message was clear "your port is open and can be used"

On my notebooks I have the same torrent installed. Wi-Fi connection with my 2 notebooks runs like a charm.

If I check the port from these notebooks I get the message "your port is not open"

I walk over 3 meters to my my server, test the port and receive the message "port is open"

Before that I used a Belkin router and with the latter I did not receive an error message.

What's it all about. I trust I am doing something wrong but I am wondering what.

Any advise is very much appreciated. Thanks

check the IP that the port is forwarded to corresponds with the IP of the laptop

just tried that without success.

Server IP config

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : win06v3

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown

IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.33 this is the IP address in the router the port is forwarded to

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Ipconfig/all from the notebook is IP address 192.168.1.5

Gateway like router.

I tried to set IP manually but it failed:

Any clue? Thanks!

check the router's built-in firewall as well. you need it to allow the incoming connection to that port.

The dynamic IP should be fine for a little LAN because the DHCP usually give the same IP to the same MAC address. But most people will set aside a static IP pool for port forwarding.

You need to use a different port to run utorrent on your server and on your laptop.

So far you have forwarded the port 60783 to your server (192.168.1.33).

Now you need to forward a different port (60683 for example) to your laptop (192.168.1.5) and then set up utorrent on your laptop to use this port (60683).

And you are... THE WINNER :)

Problem solved and big thx!

Glad I could help.

You need to understand that the port forwarding feature in a router is used by the router to route the traffic, to know to which computer it should send which data. So you need to forward different ports to different computers.
