Remote Application Access.

Hi,

I'm looking for some software that will allow remote access to a program/programs loaded on a windows machine. I don't want any server side data to be distributed to the client, just a RDP type connection locked to specified applications that are already running on the server.

Any suggestions on good software able of doing this better than microsofts terminal services?

Thanks

Take a look at RAdmin (http://www.radmin.com).

I use that program for years and it's the best I had ever used for remote connection and administration. Unfortunate that program isn't freeware and cost US$ 49.00

Cheers.

From my point of view using a web based VNC/Remote Control application is maybe ok as long as you use non-confidential data.

For to use with confidential data, I would never use an web based application for remote control, just for to be on the safe site.

Just my 2 Satang's!

Cheers.

Any reason in particular you are avoiding Terminal Services? I really prefer it over VNC because it doesn't interfere with anyone using the host machine and dynamically resizes to match the resolution of the client. RDP can be made quite secure by changing a few settings. On the host machine you wish to control, go into the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) and change the security settings so it requires high security (128 bit encryption).

I would recommend you use a different external port number than the standard 3389, use another port and forward that to 3389 on the target machine. You can change the port used by RDP if you prefer by change a registry entry on the host machine:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber

The most secure way is what Stumonster and Crushdepth recommended, do it over a VPN.

If it's application(s) you'd like to remote control or share, and not the whole desktop, try Citrix.

Never installed the server myself so couldn't advise you how complicated it is, but client side it's relatively simple; applications are launched by browsing to a page hosted on the server where the applications are and clicking on the application required.
