Bangkok Park Gestapo

Featured Replies

Hi

It seems like Bangkok parks are no place to have a kick around with a football (soccer for you Americans) with your 7 year old son.

Lumpini park security won't allow it anywhere in the park. Neither will Queen Sirikit park - not even in an empty car park there.

So - anyone know where it's OK to go & have a kick around in Bangkok ?

Cheers

Pete

have you tried the international schools????? ... sometime they may let you play on there fields

It seems like there ought to be some public athletic fields around, although now that you mention it, I've never noticed any. Interesting. Of course, it's not the burbs, it's a major city.

I think you might want to read up on what the Gestapo really was.

Really ? Weren't they a 70's pop band from Sweden ? :)

Even in Australia it may be hard to find a place to legally kick a football. In Fremantle ball games are prohibited in all parks and reserves. You have to be a member of one of the clubs that hire them to legally kick a ball. Enforcement varies. Public liability is the main excuse.

Queen Sikirit park i used to play football there with Thais on two football pitches near the tennis courts.

If you drive up the road that splits the 2 parks (mo chit park)(queen sikirit) then half way up if you drive from Central end there is a bridge on the right hand side - cross the walk way bridge and the football fields are on the right. There are car parks up the road easy to park at.

Queen Sikirit park is the big park with swimming pool/bike hire/butterfly house etc.... not the small park that is next to mo chit BTS forget that park and go over the back.

good luck

When I was visiting over December/January, someone had suggested going to the Peninsula Hotel(?) for Sunday brunch. So I did.

When you exit the skytrain, you can either take a riverboat across or walk across a bridge. I decided to walk across the bridge.

At the far end of the bridge, when you walk down the stairs, there are soccer setups. Goals, chainlink fence around the "fields" so that the balls don't go into the river, and, well, I think it was asphalt as a playing ground. Sorry. But anyway, there were a bunch of people playing on at least two fie...er, asphalts there.

If you head over to Petchburi Road where Ekkamai joins up you can find a spot to kick it around. In that area I see guys playing football all the time. Go a little further to Rama 9 and there are a few other parks where people play sports / jog etc.
