An excerpt from today's Bangkok Post, news section, talking about swine flu:

Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai knew. So did Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. So did their deputies. No reason for the public to know. As Mr Witthaya put it: "It is not necessary to release such information for academic purposes at this stage as it violates patients' privacy."

It is still not quite clear how a forthright and honest statement that "two people have the flu" violates anyone's rights. In fact, explained Mr Witthaya, that's another thing no one has to know. Clearly vexed, he asked: "Can't the public just accept that a highly competent government is right on top of the problem and there is absolutely nothing to worry about?"

I'd be interested in the Thai language translation for "Can't the public just accept that a highly competent government is right on top of the problem and there is absolutely nothing to worry about?. I tried searching ไทยรัฐ newspaper for กระทรวงสาธารณสุข นายวิทยา แก้วภราดัย (Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai), but couldn't find the Thai article that's related to the Bangkok Post one (if there is, in fact, one). If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate the assistance.

นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ นายกรัฐมนตรี กล่าวในรายการ "เชื่อมั่นประเทศไทยกับนายกฯ อภิสิทธิ์" ออกอากาศทางสถานีโทรทัศน์แห่งประเทศไทยช่อง 11 เมื่อเวลา 09.00 น. วันที่ 17 พฤษภาคม ถึงสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดไข้หวัด ชนิดเอ เอช 1 เอ็น 1 หรือไข้หวัดใหญ่สายพันธุ์ใหม่ 2009 ว่า ช่วงสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมาไทยได้พบผู้ติดเชื้อไข้หวัดใหญ่สายพันธุ์ใหม่ 2009 เป็นกรณีแรก 2 คน แต่ทั้ง 2 คนเดินทางมาจากประเทศที่มีการระบาดของไข้หวัดใหญ่ตัวนี้ และได้รับการดูแลรักษาพยาบาลจนหายดีแล้วจึงส่งกลับบ้านได้ ซึ่งไม่พบรายงานว่ามีใครติดเชื้อจากบุคคลทั้ง 2 ทั้งนี้รัฐบาลไทยไม่ประมาท โดยประชุมกับประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียนเพื่อเตรียมความพร้อมในเรื่องยาและวัคซีน อีกทั้งมาตรการในการเฝ้าระวังต่างๆ ยังเข้มข้นอยู่ เพราะตัวเลขในต่างประเทศที่มีผู้ติดเชื้อและเสียชีวิตยังเพิ่มขึ้นอยู่

วันเดียวกัน ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการตอบโต้ภาวะฉุกเฉินทางด้านการแพทย์และสาธารณสุข รายงานสถานการณ์โรคไข้หวัดใหญ่สายพันธุ์ 2009 ว่า ในวันที่ 16 พฤษภาคม พบผู้ป่วยติดเชื้อ 2 รายเท่าเดิม มีประวัติเดินทางกลับจากประเทศที่มีผู้ป่วยยืนยันติดเชื้อ แต่ยังไม่แพร่ระบาดในประเทศ ขณะที่ผู้ป่วยที่อยู่ในข่ายเฝ้าระวังพบ 12 ราย อยู่ระหว่างสอบสวน หรือกำลังดำเนินการตรวจทางห้องปฏิบัติการ
