How Much Can You Knock Off From Car Tents

Featured Replies

The plan was originally to buy a new accord or camry, but after looking at one2car there seems to be a lot of good late model european cars that come in at the same price or lower.  I'm thinking either a late model 5 or 7 series beemer, or perhaps an audi. Seems these cars have depreciated quite a bit since new.  I can remember being in the showroom a few years ago and looking at these vehicles and they were in the 3-7 million range.

Anyone have a reasonable amount of experience dealing with these car tents in BKK and what to expect as far as discount off of their asking price?

Anyone been able to negotiate some sort of warranty for a year or two?

Beemers etc do devalue a lot and for good reasons - the running costs and spares can get very costly.

If you check out the prices for second hand BMWs etc in Europe, you'll find they are about 1/10th of the cost in Thailand.

I wish I could find a 5 year old 5 series for 100,000 baht :)  Not too worried about running costs, I just enjoy a decent drive, but would rather let someone else eat the 60K USD in depreciation.

Now back to the original question, is 15% off realistic?  Tents seem to be about 25% higher than what they would offer to buy a car, and that margin seems too big of a spread for them not to have negotiating room.

Used car dealers are some of the biggest crooks out there in every country and I can't see any farang squeezing these guys in TH for any amount. Anyway, it won't cost you any to try...

I would rather contact the Merc and BMW dealers. They are frequently asked to trade in 3-5 years old, but find no takers. Audi doesnt have much of a dealership in LOS.

Right.  I was looking at the millenium website where they appear to have a lot of 3-5 yo trade ins.  I'd definitely have a mechanic look over any prospective cars and get some sort of warranty in writing.

I guess the cars already traded in have to be sold with a marqeup. But if you contact the new car sales staff, they are often unable to sell new cars because they cant trade in old. Spread your phonenumber and desire, lets say 4 year old 525 at 1,2 mill. Most beemers where sold with a 5 year/100k warranty/service.

Good idea, thanks kbb.

Hi

Be very careful if you use a tent, a lot of the cars without warranty, if you pay 1-2 mill for a car better look at BMW, Mercer dealership, i have seen a BMW in BKK where the service book was stamped the same date for the last 3 oil change/services, mean that someone in the dealership is cheating, or been paid to do it.
