Uk Visa Application Timeframe

Featured Replies

Has anyone recently applied for a UK visa in Bangkok? How long does the process usually take these days? We applied on 7th May and have not heard anything, so it's been 20 days already. Is this normal? I know each case is different and all that, but just to have an idea of approximate timescales would be good.

What kind of visa.

There is a long thread about settlement visa wait times. Those are looking like 10 weeks ++.

Sorry, should have specified. It's a tourist visa. They quoted 15 days when we applied, obviously we're beyond that now though... :)

Wow - the unexpected has happened, the UK Visa Application Centre has just replied to the email I sent them! Only took them 2 days... :) Anyway, apparently the 15 days is working days, so we're within time still (just).

If you apply at a busy period, such as now, then non-settlement applications can take a month, maybe more.

i did a successful application for a 6 month hol visa for my thai wife this year.We went to the application centre on the Monday and it had been returned from the embassy on the Wednesday. We didnt know if the application was successful or not the visa centre wouldnt tell us on the phone, the envelope from the embassy was sealed and they couldnt open it but we went to visa centre in BKK on the Friday and hey presto a visa at the first time of asking. On the advice of the members of this forum (thanks forever) i did the application online and had everything at hand that was needed for the visa.I got all my info on THAILAND FORUM Even the day before i did the online application i did a post asking for help, got the answer and support and did the application with a degree of confidence.Did you ask for an sms alert to let you know when the visa was back at application centre, did you do it online so you can track the application ?

It would help if you could say when this was.

In December 2008 my sister-in-law submitted her application Monday am and it was ready for collection the next afternoon!

However, this was at a quiet time. As already said, there seems to have been a large number of people applying for UK visas since Jan 2009, which obviously means longer processing times as the visa section attempts to deal with them all.

See this post for processing times for visit visas issued in April.

The missus put her application in 2 weeks ago and we are still waiting :) i need to be in England in July and want to get the flights booked, this is her 2nd visa and will be her 3rd visit so we expected it just to take a couple of days (she was told it would be 3 or 4 when she submitted the paperwork)
