Salsa Dancing Classes

Recommended Posts

Anyone knows of any good salsa dancing classes other than Salsa Hacha? I have been to Salsa Hacha for a free trial class but the location is not very convenient for me. Looking for a studio somewhere around Asok, Chit Lom area.

Hi there

Yes there are salsa classes around but the ones I have tried are all LA and NY styles, which I dislike as I spent many years being taught Cuban style, which is so much better. and of course, is the real thing. If you go to the salsabangkok website you will find some other venues. La Rueda is the most famous but again the styles are LA/NY taught by Singaporeans! They have private Cuban style lessons there but I wouldnt bother with that. I am going to check out some of other places so let me know what you find or contact me

Cuban son was a major influence, but salsa is more than son, it's a homegrown style that was cultivated by Latinos in NYC, mostly Puerto Ricans.

The term salsa itself was first used, in reference to dance, by newyorqueno Izzy Sanabria in the pages of Latin NY magazine in the early 70s.

NY style is the most dominant salsa form worldwide. The Cuban interpretation, sometimes called 'casino,' is a bit old-fashioned by comparison :) but all the difference forms, including LA and Miami, have their charms.

i think instead of "old fashioned" i might have said that it's more "vibrant" "exciting" "con sabor" to describe cuban salsa. :-))

it's so funny to see the age-old debate about where the term "salsa" comes from even here in a thailand forum! personally, i'll go with the saying i saw on a tshirt recently, "shut up and dance!" hahaha!

now that i've burned my bridges with the local LA/NY salseros, ;-) are there any CASINEROS who might want to go out dancing? for the past 10 years i've spent 2 months every summer in cuba, but this year i'm here instead (long story)... but i'm CRAVING some dancing!!!!!

please don't let me go home to maui at the end of the month without having danced here in thailand!!! :-D

aloha!

Hi, Cuban salsa is good, though in today's day and age, LA and NY style are the dominant ones in the world, and they are actually more fun, and I dance both, it's very hard to find cuban dancers in Thailand, or wherever you go in the world. Has anyone attended Salsa Fiesta in BKK at all? I was supposed to go last year but just missed out due to other commitments, but will definitely be there this year, I've also been to La Rueda, and met Apple, and her male instructor, they are fantastic LA dancers, and both have been over seas to LA/NY learning salsa in and out, and can say if you want high quality salsa, head to La Rueda and ask for Apple, and when her classes are held, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy the music, it's the best, speaking of which, anyone know of any Salsa bands around that need a chorus singer? or any type of singer, I've sung in a small band before and am looking to join one for fun, recreation etc etc, please let me know if anyone knows of any, cheers.
