Anyone Been To Chiang Khan

Featured Replies

Hi guys.... has anyone been to Chiang Khan Immigration Office?

I need to get a 30 day visa extension.

I presume there is not a Immigration Office in Loei and I will have to travel the 50km on to CK

Also can you do a border crossing at Chiang Khan.... just need to do a turn around next month and use my 2nd 60 day visa.

Thanks in advance for any info provided

You might have an alternative now.

There is a new border crossing opened at Tha Li, Pak Chom District.

This is in Loei but not sure if it is nearer than Chiang Khan.

Tha Li is indeed in Loei province but is a district and not anywhere close to Pak Chom District (which is on the other side of Chiang Khan. Tha Li is west of Chiang Khan and understand a bridge crossing to Laos may have opened recently?. The city of Tha Li is well away from the border and best known for Phra That Satcha.

Lopburi's directional sense is correct. I was just in Chiang Khan in December and there were no border crossings for foreigners in Loei province, only Thais can cross. You could get your 30 day extension there at the office in Chiang Khan, but for border crossing, the nearest is Nong Khai as far as I know. By the way, the river area is simply beautiful.

Thanks for the info...... yes no problem getting a 30 day extension..... very friendly people at the office. We arrived at noon and had lunch with one of the officers at a nearby noodle shop which had a nice view over the river. In about 5 months time I will be making an application for a years extension to a non imm o visa so it's been good getting to know the officer who I hope will be doing the interviewing etc..

ahhh yes, Chiang Khan..... very peaceful little place. If things were any more laid back there, they'd all be in a coma... :o

I found out I wasn't alone in liking it as no less than a half dozen farang were met up there all having river-front homes built.

I need to make an appearance at an immigration office for payment of a late charge on over due 90 day reporting.

Does anyone know if this can be done in Chiang Khan immigration ?I Live in Phitsanulok and usually mail it to Bangkok, However this time I am overdue.

Thanks for any help with this

Before anyone gets too excited about Chiang Khan you had better get some more information. I get my retirement visa and do my 90 day check ins there. About six months ago there was a very irate Brit in the office. The immigration officer told him he must go to Nong Kai because it wasn't possible to cross the border to Laos in Chiang Khan. I don't know about Tha Li.
