simon43
On occasions when meeting Thai friends, I have introduce my Thai wife, girlfriend, partner etc. What is a polite way to say 'May I introduce Khun X to you', and howabout a more casual way of saying 'This is Khun X, my wife/partner/lawyer etc' Thanks Simon
oevna
I don't know if there is a more formal way, or even if this is totally correct, but this seems to get the point across: สวัสดีครับคุณ X คนนี้คือภรรยาผม เขาชื่อ Y sawat dii khrap khun X khon nii kheu phanrayaa phom khao cheu Y Which means, "Hello Mr. X, this person is my wife. Her name is Y." Then for the others, you can kind of abbreviate for the sake of not being repetitive: นี้คือเพื่อนผม ชื่อ Z nii kheu pheuan phom cheu Z "This is my friend. His name is Z." Etc. The word คือ kheu is the verb "to be," similar to เป็น pen. For some reason คือ is used more often than เป็น in introductions like this.
meadish_sweetball
Removed a few posts unrelated to the topic (which is a good and valid one). Please keep it civil and on topic.
simon43
Oevna - you exactly answer my question! I have been using เป็น but it just didn't sound right. คือ is a word that I have heard many times in my conversations with Thais, but never got round to using it myself Thanks Simon
