I am going to book my tickets for my trip to Bangkok flying from London.

Before I do anyone got any advice on the best value for money airline?

I am 6ft1 tall so if anyone knows who gives you a little bit extra leg room at standard price that would be good!

I don't know when I will be coming back so am planning to get a return with a return date about a year away and then change it when I want to come back. Does any airline have a low or no fee for changing flights?

Thank you.

You have to buy a higher class and thus more expensive ticket to enable a "free" change of dates. Thai have no seat back tv's but good "pitch" (distance between the seat in front and yours). Check seatguru to compare airline legroom.

Have a look on Thai airways website, http://www.thaiairways.co.uk/promotions/index.html for offers.

You can get a "Q" class seat from West East Travel for £523 (these have to be paid for by the end of June). Might be black-out dates at the beginning of August.

Enjoy your trip :)

Singapore Air have best planes (A380) with good seat pitch and great service but you will have to go via Singapore and will pass Bangkok on the way. The extra cost of a flight back to Bangkok is in my opinion worth it and Singapore is, of course, well worth a visit. Their own web site often has great prices unlike Thai Air's. West East are good until something goes wrong and then they are like Thai Air (+ Thais generally) and will ignore you, hoping any problem will simply go away on its own.

Air Asia is cheapest (via Kuala Lumpur and again well worth a visit on the way) but I have no experience. Hopefully, some here have and will respond.

Your experience has obviously been different to mine. I needed to change a return date. I phoned WestEast, they instantly gave me the Thai Airways number to call in BKK.

Selected the English speaking options and was finished in 5 mins.

I'd previously been on hold for 15 minutes to Thai Airways in London :)

More complex than you think.

Has to be under a year but completely dependent on your dates. Some tickets only valid 90 days, others 180, some don't allow changes during certain periods, others charge heavily for that. Example just found flight Sat 6 Jun 2009 – Thu 4 Mar 2010...British Airways £399 but go Tue 4 Aug 2009 – Sat 17 Apr 2010 and the same flight is £880 and cheapest on Emirates £550...change of dates from £65 to £150.

Best way to do it is to try putting your dates into Kayak and if you see something you like go as to book it so you can check out terms and conditions for flight changes. Given the current situation for visa's on long term for Thailand you might wanna bear that in mind or you could also find yourself having to fly back into LOS just to catch your return flight.

Thanks for the info people. Had a look around and think I will just get a single and take my chances. Not sure how I will come back so might not be flying back from Bangkok anyways.

If your flying on a one way ticket you MUST have a visa in your passport otherwise you will have to jump through hoops to get the airline to let you board, best to check out the visa threads for latest info but I believe that the new situation is that overland entries are restricted to 14 days and no more than 4 of those...but for exact details check out the visa threads.

Oh dear.

I am going to apply for a visa (non-imm O or :) this week.

What if I get a return ticket with a return date of a year. Will I still need a visa stamp?

Yes. Your ticket will need to show a return within 30 days. You can always change it once in country.

If you have a non-imm o multi you can have a oneway ticket as it will count as a valid visa in you passport. If you are not applying for year visa in Thailand you will have to return in one year for new visa.
