I have had some probs with my HP Laptop rcently in that it packed up working completely.

I took it for repairs,(at an HP dealer) they said it was the keyboard.

So they replaced it and I got it back today, they also put extra ram and a new battery in.

However there are a few major things wrong.

I cannot access any website that requires a personal password...Hotmail, my bank, offshore accounts etc, this is very annoying.

The other problem is that the sidebar calender is showing 2006 and the baht exchange rates are the same as when the computer packed up, XE.com tells me they have gone up since then.

Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks in advance

extra ram & new battery is fine, isn't it?

problems you've now don't relate to hardware but systems setup.

If your laptop has numeric keys embedded in the alphabetic keyboard it may be that Numlock is on by default when you boot up. Open up Notepad and type some of your passwords into it just to make sure that what you're typing is the same as what you think is being sent.

The first thing I would do is inform every bank, etc that your system security has been breached. That way they pay if there is any fraud.

Then go back and get them to restore your settings. You dont tell us anything about O/S or browsers, makes it difficult to assist ya.

I just did a k/b hack on my Sony Vaio NB - replaced a bunch of keys - nothing changed.

Thanks for the replies all.

I took it into the shop this morning and they got everything restored within 10 minutes.

Not sure exactly what they did but whatever, it works :)

Hi.

I guess they did a BIOS reset and then forgot to set the time and/or date correctly. As you said your sidebar calendar showed the year 2006, that's what the BIOS said. And some web sites which are (for some reason or other) depending on the time of your system won't let you access them if your time is off by so much. Windows Update is one such site that i personally know of.

Now all they had to do to "fix" it is set the date correctly :)

Kind regards.....
