Good morning i'm a polish citizen girl living and working in UK from november 2008, i'm married with a Thai but he is still in Thailand , we know each other for about 5 years , but we are married since almost 2 years ago.

The problem is that when i got to UK i haven't got to the Home office to apply for Worker Registration Scheme, and soon i'll start with my husband the procedure to bring him to live here with me , but i'm worried that it can be a problem that i didn't apply for this :Worker Registration Scheme....

so Please tell me ,it's ok to start the procedure with out it? or it is necessary? and my salary is between 840-1000£ per month , it is alright , or not? specially that i live on the south and the living coast is cheaper than other places of England...about the place to live i'm renting a flat where i'm living alone , so there's no problem...

Please help me faster , because as i said we are starting soon the procedure.

Have a nice day everybody

Jasna,

I have been in a very similar situation in the UK. However, I’m German and my wife is Thai. I will tell you what I know, but you will still need to do your own research about some of the required paperwork.

You should first sort out your own documentation (i.e. Worker Registration Scheme (or similar)), which – as far as I know – has to be done by most nationals of Eastern European countries, which have recently joined the European Union (EU). You will find all the information about this subject on:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/eea/wrs/

However, I suggest you CALL the homeoffice as well. Your case of getting your husband into the UK may not be related at all with the “Worker Registration Scheme”. But it’s always good to have all your own documentation in order anyway, so you won’t have any trouble.

In order to get your husband into the UK, you (and your husband) will need to deal with the British embassy in Bangkok (BKK). The first thing your HUSBAND will need to do is to apply for a Family Permit as a Dependant of an European Citizen. Basically, this means that your husband wishes to remain in the UK because of your presence in that country. This visa will be valid for six months and your husband can enter the UK without problems.

Before the expiration date of that visa your husband will have to apply for a new visa with the homeoffice. He should then have the permission to stay in the UK for another 5 years.

After this period of time your husband can apply for a further visa extension or for British Citizenship.

The website of the British embassy in BKK is:

Just a few notes here:

- I think it will be relatively easy to get the family permit for your husband. In my experience the UK does not seem to care much about other European Citizens getting their spouse into the country. (I did not even have to pay any visa fee.)

- Do your own research: Check the websites and call the home office AND the British embassy in BKK. Make sure you know which paperwork is required! It makes absolutely no difference if you accompany your husband in the British embassy in BKK, or not. HE only has to provide the correct paperwork!

- Since you are working and living in the UK, your salary should not be a big problem. Make sure you have a proof of housing though.

- Although the homeoffice can be a bit chaotic sometimes, the UK is generally a very open-minded and tolerant country. So I think as long as you can proof that your marriage is “genuine” you won’t have any problems with the officials.

- Some of my terms may be incorrect or outdated. So, please do your own research as well.

Wishing you and your husband all the best…
