outside my condo we have always had a small group of taxi motorbikes, who were all pretty helpfull and convenient (going to the 7/11 paying bills etc) however over the last few weeks there has been some fat, aggressive looking thai woman who has been hanging around, i asked my security guard  who she is and he explained that she is in charge, but what is concerning me the most is that they have gone from sitting on a wooden bench, to building what i can only describe as a camp, the type a group of ten year old boys would make, as of today they have furnished it with hanging plans and posters, but to add insult to injury it appears they also have a tv ( god knows where they get the electricity from) which is right under my window. at first it was a bit of a joke but now this eyesore is becoming a bit of an annoyance,

what should i do?

tell fatty and her subjects to sling it?

any ideas

Unfortunately, you are in THEIR country and have to abide by THEIR laws and regulations. From what I've heard you won't get any help from the police because the police are usually on the take. Giving the squatters a bad time will only cause you grief in the long run. You have a choice of moving to another condo or accepting it. The only person who "might" have any authority is the land owner if he is wealthy enough to have any power over local authorities.

Yes goodluck with that, let us know how that goes. My name is really coming into play here.

:)

How refreshing another realist here.

You have said it as it really is my friend you understand the principles of how to obtain a happy existence in Thailand. We are mere mortals here with hardly any rights as long as you understand the terms of conditions of your own choosing as you have decided to live here then your life will be much happier and content for it.

Don't fight against xeonphobia, racism, stupidity, corruption and many many more topical complaints learn to hug and love them and live in harmony with these issues farangs have.

It may just keep you sane and happy here instead of bitter and twisted.

Correct, and this is the way things tend to be done in their country.

and have to abide by THEIR laws and regulations.

Correct again. So why shouldn't they?

You can't tell me building a squat and (probably) stealing electricity (perhaps the OP's own supply) is in accordance with THEIR laws and regulations?

Tuky you are so right but rules and regulations are meant to be broken aren't they?

Look likes the Mafi MOM has move-in ti take control of her operation, you can seek help from police; but my guess she has already paid this OFF, you might have a well to do Thai friend made a phone call to a police inspector outside of the area, other wise, just give Fat Mom and her gang a wide wide BERTH for now. :D:):D:D:D

Yep, and I guess that is what makes the world such an interesting place.

Although here in Indo there are many times I wish people would follow the rules.

For example last night I am trying to cross a busy street, every 2nd vehicle is either a taxi or motorcy taxi. Every one of them stop to pick you up right in front of you in the middle of the road making it impossible to cross the street.

If general rules were followed they would know if I wanted a taxi I would either signal or already be in one, instead they block my path as well as the cars behind them. All for no reason.

Although, should we complain? we could be in Singapore where it is impossible to get a taxi a lot of the time.

Even though the OP has an eyesore outside his room, he still has use of their services making aspects of his life much easier.

You might want to try those poison meatballs they so nastily use on soi dogs. Throw a few of those out your window and watch Big Mama scarf them down before her boys get to them and WALA...problem solved.

Next thread by the OP will be about the smelly carcas outside the condo window!

In reality, best of luck. Groups like these are difficult to deal with.

have you actually tried calling the police, or are you just scared/convinced that you won't get a fair hearing??

Go down to the police station, make a formal complaint. You might be suprised.

I had to go down to the cop shop once on wireless rd once about 12 months ago, as our maid had swiped some stuff from us. He asked where we lived, I told him we lived in Soi 8, his response was "Ah yes I know it well, we go down there often as the residents are always making complaints about after hours construction work happening illegally".

And you know what? Soi 8, for the time I was there, was pretty good at not having late night work.

Another thing to consider: coppers ARE probably on the take from the motor bike queue. No doubt, they'd be wondering why this 'middle man'/lady is now there, taking their cut. Works in your favour.

Add that to the complaint about an unauthorised construction, stealing electricity, and you never know, you might see some action.

.....

I now await rotten tomato's from the 'thailand hates us' crowd.

dam_n right you will be surprised, the cops will tell the motorbike crew that you have made a complaint, then you can certainly expect some retaliation from them. Expect something very nasty to happen.

It sounds like your room is facing the main street. Assuming you're renting, isn't there any possibility of moving to a different room where the annoying TV noise can't be heard? That certainly seems like the quickest and easiest solution.

By no means challenge this group.

I also agree with trying to get some help from the police (if changing rooms isn't possible). I think you're assuming that the Mo-cy Mafia Momma has already greased the cop's palms. Perhaps she hasn't and you can beat her to the punch. However, as someone has mentioned, if she is already in good with the local police, trying to involve them may backfire on you.

Just change rooms!

Set up a discrete loudspeaker near the squat and play some ghostly sounds occasionally and during the night when there's just one or two of them there. Word will spread there's a ghost and they'll probably move. Elegant and no-one gets bent out of shape.

You win!

I really like this suggestion. Add a piece of fishing line (that can't be seen) to the situation. Tie it to a nearby small tree or shrub and give it a few yanks every so often. Between the ghoulish sounds and the myteriously moving flora, this unsavory lot may just decide to relocate.
