sbk Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 No, I haven't. If I had I would have bought it, I have a fondness for vines. No idea why, just think they tend to be more spectacular Floridata.com is an excellent web resource for more detailed plant information btw. http://www.floridata.com/ref/S/stro_mac.cfm
GungaDin Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 If my local guys find a source, I'll put some aside for you. I've got two separate plantsmen with whom I've spent a few dollars with, I give them photos and 100 bt & another 100 when they come up with the plants, so it's win-win for both parties. 200 plus the profit on the plants. I usually buy 4 of any species. Not expensive!

I tried , but images don't show up in edit or preview! gd Have one in the back yard in C.M. just over a year old, when planted stem at base as thick as my little finger now same size as my wrist.Flowers yearly, blooms lasted about a nano-second in my case, see you next year. Also have a near identical orange version, much more rapid grower, flowered 4 or5 times throughout the year.Yes the flower colour is quite unique but you don't get to see it very often or for very long. Both cost Bt100.
GungaDin Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Hello Kim. Can you put me in contact with the plantsman or woman, who sold the vine/s to you? Have your vine/s borne any fruit or seeds yet? Cheers. gd edited for spilling........
GungaDin Posted June 20, 2009 Author Posted June 20, 2009 After arriving at the market (SL2) at 5.30 tonite, most vendors had gone, no surprise, after showing pics to about 10 vendors, one turned up trumps with the Turquoise Jade Vine, so I bought 3, all she had. No luck yet with the "Red Tiger's Claw", Mucana Bennettii aka Mucuna novoguineensis. from New Guinea (sic) I'll try again on Sunday. Mucana Bennetti Coral red colour. Pic conforms with Toptropicals.com terms of use. More info. or http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_cat...Mucuna_benettii If anyone wants some Turquoise Jade Vines put aside, please PM me. (I hope I can find the seller again)
GungaDin Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 6 Coral reds arrived today plus some Bouganvilleas. Loads of plant sellers open and trading along with the Tropical fish guys. Nice to walk around without the crowds.... I was asked to turn up at 13:00 on Monday...... dunno what for yet.

The Red flowered variety is available on Koh Phengan ... at the Organic Farm which is off the Tong Nai Pan Road near Ban Tai... but a little tough getting up there! I found this plant at their Walking street stall in Tongsala last month. Beautiful specimen (s) near Nanthon Koh Samui.. See my post on the Islands Garden Forum; Island Garden Forum Thanks to Rooo, for finding the link!
sbk Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I have a terrific Rangoon creeper (lep mue neung or ladyfingers in Thai) that I got from a cutting I liberated from a plant growing on the side of the road in front of someones house (much to my husbands chagrin I might add). It has taken off and and over the trellis we built for it, it needs to be pruned regularly, but when its in flower it looks spectacular. I had a beautiful passionflower vine that grew over our parking garage but it got killed in the floods a couple of years ago
GermanPrimrose Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Hi, I just love the turquoise jade vine - well, the red one, too! You don't know anyone who ships them abroad by chance, do you? Greetz Primrose

I had a beautiful passionflower vine that grew over our parking garage but it got killed in the floods a couple of years ago Hi, armed with a printed photo of the New Guinea Creeper, I went to the Pattaya Nua weekend pllant market and found the plant within minutes: mind you it is a juvenile plant and there were not any flowers on it. 300 baht: then the lady also said she would bring the jade vine one next week. I was thinking of going to Jatujak next week and look by myself but having a photo saved a lot of time and effort. Happy gardening.

As promised the lady at the Plant market in North Pattaya had my jade vine ready for me on Sunday.300 baht. The New Guinea creeper bought the week before is powering along : It has grown aver 40 cm in 1 week: attaching itself to a back fence: almost growing before your eyes! Anyone in Pattaya interested in forming a gardener social network: might be interesting to meet other green thumbs!
