My wife and are leaving Thailand early next year

My 1 year retirement extention is up next month and the required funds will not be available. I'm going to need to extend my stay by about 5/6 months.

What is the best way to do this?

My wife suggests overstay. I'm not sure if the move is permanent. Is there a problem getting back into Thailand after an overstay? Are you blacklisted?

Overstay? Stupid idea.

You can go to Vientienne Laos and get a double entry Tourist Visa. This would give you 6 months with 2 extensions from Immigration and a border run in the middle.

This will tell you everything you want to know, and then some. I would recommend starting on page 46 and working your back.

For a Tourist Visa, there was no Paperwork to speak of, just a couple of photos and the application form. Also, getting a visa to get into Laos is easy.
