since last night I have only been able to get a few seemingly random sites despite a good connection, I just tried a US based proxy and its fine, what would be causing this?

Need a little more information to help you on this one.

Which ISP?

Your network (How are you connected to the internet)?

Where do you live?

Are you using alternate DNS server?

Sounds like DNS issues.

All url's stored in your dns cache will still work, ane new ones won't.

Try openDNS (google their website, all is explained how to set up).

looks like its maxnet and it looks like everybody using that has the same problems, it is odd tho that the proxy solves it altho it compresses images badly
