Could be a bad connection in the phone line, do you you get any static on the phone, also might help to let maxnet kno ou have a problem.

My local friends have a selection of TOT and TTAT packages for which we pay a variety of prices on various promotions.

We printed out speed test results as low as 17 and 22 kbps downloads (on 4mb connection in my case). Might as well have printed out the Magna Carta in Latin and presented that for all the understanding (read blank looks) we received.

They are all crap, the entire system here is crap, always was and always will be.

Noboby cares (unless you dont pay the bill) and nobody ever does anything about it.

Anybody can advise on a connection via satelite that bypasses this third rate IT set up could achieve hero status.

Can it be done? what does it cost?

I have a TT@T Maxnet Premier package up to 2MB, also using the 2640 D Link router and had similar problems to the OP until I switched to open DNS.

It is now as steady as a rock.

It is so steady that the BBC Radio, and my Multichoice TV (unscrambled through the internet) never goes down.

The best I ever had in Thailand, including when I lived in Bangkok.

I get regular download speeds exceeding the 2 Mbs I have paid for, and it is never slower than 1.8-1.9 Mbs. And I am talking from the USA and Europe. Thailand/Singapore servers show DL speeds way higher than I pay for.

All for 1,090 Baht per month.

I used to pay over 4,000 for IPstar and apart from a totally crap service that was always crashing, I never got Dl speeds of more than 250 KPBS, and it was often well under 100 kpbs - when it worked at all. :)

thanks for the replies, i do get a tiny bit of static in the phone lines but i don't think that matters too much.

as for DL/UL speed, it is around the promised rate until later on in the day (evening and night)

does anyone know if CAT HiNet ADSL service more stable?

Is it a crackling sound (eg. crrr-pop-crack-crackle)?

Is it a buzzing sound (eg. a continuous bzzzzzzzz sound)?

Generally

If it is crackling sound, then the connection will be unstable and connect at lower physical speeds. Ping times will be erratic.

If it is a buzzing sound, then the connection will connect as normal, look normal, but simply not work very well. The interference is too high for the ADSL signal to "pass" cleanly. You might get 60% ping timeouts or more.

Any interference, no matter how minute, is bad for high speed ADSL connections.

For a bzzzzz sound, try removing your phone from the line and see if the connection works better.

Also, forget about getting good speeds during peak hours on a consumer line. Thailand simply does not have the available bandwidth.

The only thing that seems to work fine 24/7 is torrent traffic...
