How is your Maxnet Premiere working?

I'm in Nonghoi district and mine is working like sh*t! I have to click on a link about 20 times to get it to load. The nice folks at TT&T gave me the usual suggestion of turning off my router for a while, which doesn't help. I think the problem is rain related. But they poo-poo the suggestion.

Anyone else having troubles?

Maxnet is shit. I moved to TOT, which isn't great, but it least it works reliably.

I used to have TOT, and it was far worse than Maxnet. Actually, Maxnet Premiere works very well for me most of the time. It just seems like when the rains start, Maxnet starts acting up. I'm thinking there are corroded connections that could use some cleaning up.

Highly irregular TT&T premier recently in the city (on a TOT line in). Will get quite satisfactory but certainly not spectacular initial at-computer speeds at the start, but they almost immediately fall off with infrequent bursts of activity on the same log-in. This happens, of late, at most any hour.

I very, very rarely download big files. I can have trouble uploading even one jpeg. It is impossible to store backups on line.

In my experience, TOT was worse. I switched some time ago.

Guys, I'm back in the USA right now and it is sooo great having a high speed connection. However I will be back next month. I stay in Surin. I was going to have TOT install a line, but they wanted 30,000 baht for installation since there is no line going to my village at this time, so I passed on that. I did get a CDMA with CAT and used it now for about 8 months. Works very well, not great but good. I can download large files, use skype etc. Costs me about 900 baht per month unlimited. Can use it anywhere in Esan, but cant use it in Bangkok.

Its not just Maxnet premier that has these problems. I have the Indy plan and the service has had major issues as well. From what I see, there are issues with their DNS servers. When I use independent DNS I get better results. Not perfect but better.

Not sure about the 'rainy season scenario' but my Maxnet Premiere has also been very patchy for about 3 weeks now--one minute going great then zilch and I even need to reboot sometimes, or restart modem--either of these options will help temporarily but nothing long term. I was downloading some big files last week and speeds wavered from high-ish 170 Kbps to zero, every 15 mins--very tedious.

Is that why you still haven't emailed me that info, Swain?

Maerim. TOT line, Maxnet Premier more than 3 years now. Good service until a few months ago. Line disconnects momentarily quite frequently. Another big annoyance is that cannot open a website without clicking 5 to 30 times on it (and sometimes I give up). This applies always to a website I've not visited before. I began to get suspicious and suspected that they (Maxnet or cyberpolice) have installed some kind of spy filter that is monitoring (and occasionally jamming) our access to websites. That could work by routing through a monitoring node. By the way, I'm not talking about porno or anything illegal. These are regular sites (offshore).

Anyone else having this problem. Is there a more reasonable explanation?

I'm having the exact same problem, but it has only started in the last few days. I often have to click a link 30 or more time to get it to load. TT&T says to turn off the router for five minutes and turn it back on. This seems to help for a few minutes. I had this exact same problem last year about this time, which makes me suspect the moisture issue.

I'm with TOT's 3Mbps package in Nong Hoi and have the same issues with loading sites - sometimes Yahoo Mail doesn't want to show its face and following some overseas links simply results in endless loading. Otherwise, the speed is fine with speeds as high as 280kb/s on well seeded torrents - much better than a few months ago.

Maybe, but the TOT I am using is not through the telephone line....it's through a satellite dish they installed as they don't have telphone lines in this area and it is 100% better....rarely goes off and on, no problems opening any sites or getting mails. Speed slows down sometimes but rarely ....pretty consistent. With TT&T I can't even access the mails on my domain.....it keeps saying the server timed out or the domain doesn't exist...Pfffff!!! and yes, takes ofr ever to open sites especially if new ones ...too frustrating !! I need the telephone , otherwise I would cancel it and it's a package thing....you can't get the telephone only...You Must take the internet connection ..no choice so have to pay for something that doesn't work ....Way to go TT&T....

Maxnet 3 MB also. Sansai/Mae Jo Road area. Absolutely terrible connection which has worsened in the last two weeks. Pretty much the same as everyone else is reporting. Several times during the course of the day I can not access websites in Europe, check my Yahoo email, and at times can't load TV which used to load just fine when nothing else would.

About two weeks ago the technicians finally showed up after calling and stoping by the TTT office for 3 months to complain. They were both super unfriendly and unhelpful and acted like I had wasted their time. They just checked the wires coming into the house, blew some canned air into the junction box, checked the DSL filters and tried a couple of websites. The websites barely loaded. I told them I couldn't use Skype at all and they said that they didn't know the program. They left very quickly and said "call again if the problem continues."; basically mai bpen rai.

I'd appreciate it if all you TT&T users would give a call and complain. The number is 1103. Maybe with a concerted effort we can get something done. :)

I feel for you guys but a lot of times it's not the network but the TTT or TOT DNS servers that are flakey. Try using a third party DNS servers like OpenDNS.com. It's free and cleared up most of my problems. BTW I have Maxnet 2 mb in the city and have been getting consistent 1+ MB downloads.

For troubleshooting if your having trouble surfing etc then try a ping or traceroute to a servers IP address and see how it performs. That step would bypass a DNS lookup request. If the performance is fast to the IP address then you know its a DNS server name resolution problem.

Hope that helps

Wow. I just signed up with OpenDNS. It took about 50 attempts to bring up their website. It is working SO much better! What a difference! Thank you sir.

I am having exactly the same problems.

Click to download a web page, than get page unavailable. The same with downloading software etc.

Need to click several times before I can actually download a page or updates.

This has been the case for the last 6 weeks.

I am located near Chom Thong, ISP MaxNet indy.

Have a brand new router and I know that is not causing the problems.

It`s all a load of crap (crapnet) and just accept the Internet as it is day by day because after complaining for so many times, I`ve now lost the willpower to contact TT&T again.

I really have no complaints about the speed. On downloads and torrent files, I get close to the advertised speed. My problem was with clicking links and nothing happening. Thankfully, I believe that is now sorted. Happily surfing at the moment.

I've been trying for more than an hour to bring up their website and it won't load. Then again almost nothing will load right now except TV!

I'll play the role of TT&T Customer Service. "Turn of your router for five minutes and retry".

ping www.opendns.com

PING www.opendns.com (208.67.219.101): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 208.67.219.101: icmp_seq=0 ttl=42 time=274.711 ms

64 bytes from 208.67.219.101: icmp_seq=1 ttl=42 time=273.052 ms

okay so now armed with this information you can go to their website even if your TOT etc nameservers are not working by typing into a web browser.

208.67.219.101

To make a long story short however all you need is the DNS servers for opendns and just plug them into your networking preferences for name servers.

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

thats all there is to using a third party DNS service like OpenDns

If you use OpenDNS with Linux, you will need to make a small change to your smb.conf file or your windows shares stop working.

  • (Uncomment and) change name resolve order in Samba configuration:
    sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf
name resolve order = lmhosts bcast wins host
  • Restart Samba
    sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart
  • Browse your shares (may be you have to wait some minutes before doing this).

Nong Hoi area w. MaxNet 3Mbps and weeks (months?)

of suffering with reload-reload-reload...

Just changed to

Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222

Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220

as suggested above.

Works great. Thank's CobraSnakeNecktie !!!

I too, signed up for OpenDNS and changed the DNS to 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220. I was not as fortunate as the others however. It didn't seem to make any difference at all. :) Slow as molasses, some sites won't load, and I still can't use Skype either. But thanks for the tip and I'm glad to hear some members got some benefit from this.
