Online Translation

Featured Replies

Is there an English - Thai online translation site available.

Something similar to babelfish. We only need something that would translate individual words, to help my wife understand any word she might get stuck on.

Thanks. :)

Not perfect perhaps, but a start nonetheless.

Thanks.

www.thai2english.com is ok

Brilliant stuff.

Mrs. Rakers thanks you kindly.

Additionally I recommend the Orange Dictionary add on for Firefox. If you hover your mouse over any word in Thai or English it will instantly give you the definition.

I often use the 'Google translate' site (full website address already shared above) for both English to Thai, and Thai to English).

In the past year or so the quality of 'google translate' accuracy has improved a lot. As already mentioned, it's not perfect but it's also not too bad.

Another site which might be worth looking at is: http://www.thai2english.com/ This is more like a dictionary.

Perhaps I can also share the following:

- My Thai son is studying 'Sports Medicine' at a Thai university.

- Most of the text books are in English, and because my son speaks advanced English (but his first language is Thai) he gets the task of translating text books from English to Thai, and this is very very time consuming and distracts him from his own study.

- He has been using 'Google translate' for some time and he often comments on how it's improving.

- Many times he has approached the text books publishers to provide soft copies (electronic copies) of the English language from the text books, so that he can more quickly put this into the 'Google translate' software, and on most occasions they have been very helpful and very prompt.

As mentioned earlier. They do phonetic translation too as in 'Ting Tong'

maybe one of the better Thai/English - English/Thai sites.

would agree that is one of the better sites. but focussed on the non-native thai speaker to learn or translate thai words.

but i assume the wife of the OP is Thai, looking for a webpage that explain english words from a thai perspective. that is quite different.

and i think specially for a learner of english it would be good if there is a source that delivers more than just one to one translations as your typical dictionary does.

maybe the english teachers could give some ideas here, but than again, none of them is a thai. but maybe have some experience and feedbacks from their thai students what is the best online resource for learning english.

online dictionaries thai-english, that serve thai native speakers can be found at the links below:

Thanks DP25. Just added Orange Dictionary to Firefox, best thing since screw top beer. I'll be playing with this all day.

One thing though, how do you turn the bloody thing off? :)

edit. I also notice that in Thai to English mode a lot of simple words have no definition

There should be two little boxes in the lower right hand corner, one ET and the other TE. You can click on these buttons to turn it on and off.

Just recently came across the web site www.imtranslator.com. You have the options of choosing which of many languages to translate from and to. I have mine set up to translate what I type in English to Thai. Then you make a hard copy print out if you wish. You are limited on the font size. You can't make signs with it just letters. Many times I've wanted to post signs on my bedroom door as too often my wife's family will rap once and then open the door, irregardless of us saying WAIT A MINUTE. :) Ran several test past my wife and the translations seem to be working perfectly. Bought a keyboard today with both Thai and English lettering. Hoping this will enable better communication both ways. Take a look and let me know what you think. :D I have babblefish and get too many error flags. So don't like it.
