Thai Visa For Us Nationals?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am doing a long trip to S.EAsia. Thailand visa requirements were confusing. It says I won't require a visa for 30 days . I will be there about 3 days and then am travelling all over and entering by land again for 15 days. (I guess that is the max.)

I thought I was ok, until I saw on the Thai embassy that if my ticket is more than 30 days , I need a visa and sometimes, the plane won't board me?? Is this true ? To be on the safe side, should I get visa.

Also I guess coming in a land border would only giveme 15 days. I am staying exactly 15 days and returning back to the US. Should I be worried? I will be in the area for a total of 50 days in 5 countries..

Any advice would be appreciated.

You do not need a visa if you are arriving if you have a US passport. With a US passport at an airport you will be given 30 day stamp and at a land border you will be given 15 days. If this enough time then you do not need to do anything or worry. You can in the USA get a multiple entry visa tourist in the USA for about $100 which will give you 60 everytime you enter at land or airport.

You may have trouble boarding the plane in the USA. Sometimes they require a visa if your return is longer then 30 days. Right now a 60 day tourist visa is available free from any Thai embassy or consulate in the US. To be safe it would be a good idea to get one in advance.
