Vientiane

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise the following:

1. Best time/bus to get from Bangkok.

2. Reasonable place to stay.

3. What is required to obtain a tourist visa.

4. If the embassy is open 6th to 8th of july.

I am currently on a non immigrant multi but this expires 9th july - presume i may be able to get a single entry from laos?

If it is your visa that is expiring you you can leave and re-enter one more time before the visa expires and get another 90 day entry.

See this topic for info on Vientiane visa runs. See the last few pages for up to date info.

The consulate will be closed the 6th, 7th and 8th of July. The 9th is going to be a very busy day.

You only need a copy of your passport photo page, 2 photos and a completed application form.

You can get a 2 entry visa there and it may be free.

The 7th and the 8th are public holidays. Not so sure on the 6th though.

EDIT.

Yes. just found it. The 6th is an extra holiday to promote Buddhist Affairs and also to PROMOTE TOURISM. (by closing the Consulates) :)

1. Is your multi non immigrant visa still valid (use before date on visa itself) or have you already made the last entry and your current permitted to stay ends 9 July?

2. On what basis do you have a non immigrant visa? Could make a difference if you can obtain or not.

On my previous visits to Vientiane , I have stayed in a hotel near the market and had a few beers in the odd bar that I have found around and about. I have been told there is a good selection of bars nearer the Laos / Thai border. Does anyone know of these bars , where they are and if its worth taking a trip from Vientiane city to go there. Maybe there is a web address for these bars ? Any hlep would be apreciated.

If you're talking about bars where you can have a few drinks, then there's no need to travel all the way back to the border. If you're talking about "bars" as in Thailand style beer bars where they trade in more than just alcohol, then you're getting into an lactivity which is illegal in Laos and beyond the scope of this forum (against rules).

I know of some bars I use in the Vientiane City but I have been told there are a few out of town . Information is what I am asking for , not for ANYTHING ELSE . This is what I am lookiing for and any information from anyone else : http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-6916...-bars+zzandzz...

"Sunset" bars down along the river. Tons of 'em with a great view of the river in the evening, hence the nickname. Big Beer Lao for under a buck. Take a tuk-tuk.

Sorry to jump in.

Does anyone know the current price of the VOA at the border for Laos?

I am a UK citizen, and i can see on the Laos Embassy website that in Bkk it is 1400baht.

Is it worth making the saving and getting it in Bkk, or sorting it out at the boarder?
