Divorce My Thai Husband

Featured Replies

Hello,

I hope that someone can give me some advice...

I married my thai partner a few years ago at an amphur office in Bangkok, and I have since moved back to the UK and started to settle.

We have therefore decided mutually to get a divorce. I understand the best way of doing this is to go back to Bangkok with the marriage certificate and get the divorce from an amphur office.

What happens then?

Do I need to then register the divorce back in the UK?

How do I go about doing that?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Jo

Going back to Thailand to divorce at the amphur is the easiest and cheapest way to divorce. The divorce is recognised by the Britisch government, so if you registered your marriage with the Britisch government you need to register your divorce, to avoid problems in the future.

Best is to contact the British Embassy in Bangkok for the right procedure for registering your divorce. They have a helpful website as well.
