February 18, 200521 yr now thailand is great for road racing, the police at worst will fine you like 100baht. ever since i passed my driving test all those years ago i have never been able to stick to speed limits, they are all way too low, actually in the 2 pics underneath i had earlier overtaken 2 police cars while i was doing like 190km, as they were only doing 70km and i came upto them just round a bend i had no chance to slow down and pretend to be driving at a sensible speed so i didnt bother slowing down. anyway the first pic is of the new merc i was racing with, he drove quite dangerously but wouldnt go over 160km, maybe thats as fast as they go ? note the red plates, so do you lot road race? as i over took him
February 18, 200521 yr If you're not already aware, Thailand has a pretty sketchy record of road traffic accidents/fatalities. If you're going to drive like a monkey do it on a race track, or off a cliff or something. What a ridiculous post. moderaters - please close.
February 18, 200521 yr Author ermmm, wot are the speed limits on the autoban in germany? every country has road accidents...
February 18, 200521 yr Author siamsam, would you ask for a thread to be closed if someone stated they drunk 12 bottles of beer per day? thats a lot more life threatening than the occasional person speeding...
February 18, 200521 yr Author actually siamsam, why do feel that you should impose your morals on other people?are your morals the correct ones and everybody else is wrong? or is it that your not able to drive a car at high speed and be able to be in control of it, everybody has differant skill levels at everything, infact my mother should not be allowed behind the wheel of a car, but she passed her test and endangers people everyday, are you like my aged mother?
February 18, 200521 yr autoban - no limits - thailand limits. 12 beers hazard to your health - driving like a fool - everybodies at risk. Hardly rocket science.
February 18, 200521 yr ermmm, wot are the speed limits on the autoban in germany? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There are speed limits on a large portion of the autobahn. Those sections where there are none, however, are designed with high-speed travel in mind. I dare say your typical Thai roadway is not.
February 18, 200521 yr Author actually if you look at the road there are only 3 cars on it, this was a straight rd once over the brow of the hill for about 10km in the middle of nowhere, yep no turn offs or houses or villages, i reckon it was quite safe.
February 18, 200521 yr Author actually b4 anyone else complains about speeding, i want you to copy and paste the following sentence.and swear its true "I have never in my whole life driven over a posted speed limit"
February 18, 200521 yr i don't worry about you speeding i would worry about you taking a picture whilest you're doing 180km/hour overtaking another vehicle
February 18, 200521 yr actually b4 anyone else complains about speeding, i want you to copy and paste the following sentence.and swear its true "I have never in my whole life driven over a posted speed limit" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well Ok you were speeding/racing, and if your confident enough then fair enough. What bothers me most is the fact that you took a picture of the speedometer at 180 KMh!! Ah Darky beat me to the post! Edited February 18, 200521 yr by Shola
February 18, 200521 yr i was doing like 190km 120 mph on a Thai road. I'm impressed. But probably not as impressed as that local on a motorbike who was coming towards you in the outside lane. And where did you find a stretch of road that was empty of traffic and with a good enough surface to have such fun?
February 18, 200521 yr Author hey. they dont call me crazy dave for nothing you know, well actually they dont call me dave or crazy at all, i suppose if i got my name changed by deed poll to dave they might, actually i did slow down to take the picture
February 18, 200521 yr Author speleo, this was coming from cambodia border, prum back to chonburi, real nice clear roads
February 18, 200521 yr speleo, this was coming from cambodia border, prum back to chonburi, real nice clear roads <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was obviously not Highway 1 between Bangkok and Saraburi Just wish I could afford to rent a car that did 120 mph
February 18, 200521 yr Author ahhh, i have to admit i didnt rent it, i bought it , its supposed to do 130mph, but i aint taken it that high yet saraburi i went a lot of times last year, thats a nice fast road there but coming back theres to many road works, i have to admit to driving me mates xjsv12 to chonburi and hitting 140mph though, now that was fun big time couldnt afford the petrol for that beast though
February 18, 200521 yr me? never! some guys do near to our home almost every night. isn't it dnagerous ?
February 18, 200521 yr couldnt afford the petrol for that beast though <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Couldn't afford the petrol at 20 baht a litre? Ouch To change topic slightly how many countries have forum members been caught speeding? I can claim speeding convictions fom the UK, Ireland, Slovenia and Thailand.
February 18, 200521 yr Author 8 miles to the gallon that beast done. i have only been convicted of speeding in the uk, 3 points, 59mph in a 30mph, i was lucky there, i have been caught speeding in usa thailand malaysia, but cos im a nice guy they let me off oops tell a lie, one time in bkk had this traffic cop telling me i was doing 120km on the tollway, i knew he was lieing cos i was doing 160km,hmmm 100baht but he started at 1000baht....
February 18, 200521 yr ,hmmm 100baht but he started at 1000baht.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wish I had known you could barter with the traffic police like you would a market trader when I got pulled over at the expressway toll booth 8km after picking up the car. I won't tell you long-time ex-pats how much I paid, but after I handed over the cash he did lean in the car, shake my hand and wish me a happy Xmas.
February 19, 200521 yr everybody speed now and then, and yes you do get pull over for speeding but its depend on the cop themself, i rented a car to go to combo early in the morning basicly the road are empty at that time in the morning, i speed all the way from Bangkok to Poipet im pretty sure i max out its not much about you are your car that are dangerous, its the people that drive with you on the road or even the road itself, thai road are not perfect road you know.
February 19, 200521 yr ,hmmm 100baht but he started at 1000baht.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh Speeeeleo! I don't wanna know how much he conned you out of, but always 'offer' them 500 Baht for whisky and cigarettes On the non main roads you can get away with 200B.
February 21, 200521 yr Crazy Dave, I wonder if you'd be so smug about your speeding after you have wiped out a Thai family on a motorcycle?? There is just so much slow traffic on the roads here.......everything from tak tak's to old pickups doing 50kph. You would have no time to react to this slow traffic when you travel at 180kph. Pull ya head in Dave before you kill someone. Dick Head Dave would be a more appropriate name for you.
February 21, 200521 yr Author ppl die in accidents at 30mph, half these idiots cant drive and dont have driving licenses so they shouldnt be on the road, i believe its called darwins theory, the idiots will be wiped out, as for familys on a single motorbike, i assume you mean couples or do you mean ppl driving illegally with like 3 ppl on a motorbike.
February 22, 200521 yr If you're not already aware, Thailand has a pretty sketchy record of road traffic accidents/fatalities. If you're going to drive like a monkey do it on a race track, or off a cliff or something. What a ridiculous post. moderaters - please close. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And I think you will find that a majority of these accidents are caused by people going too SLOW not too fast. Thailand is a haven for stupid drivers plodding along at 20km/h in the fast lane. These idiots are the potential accident causers. Also a lot of Thai drivers turning right will stop in the middle of the road,THEN indicate they WILL turn. Remember a usual Thai driver does not indicate when he wishes to turn,he indicates when he is going to turn whether there's something coming or not. Mind you although Surin has one of the worst traffic records in the Kingdom,a lot of the bad drivers here are Farangs. They knock spots off the Thais for drunken driving.
February 22, 200521 yr Somebody told me that if you commit an offence in Thailand and it ends up in court, you will be deported and blacklisted no matter what that offence is, if you are guilty. In UK, drinking and Driving is a criminal offence, not a motoring offence like speeding or No tax. I wonder if Drinking and driving would or could end up in court in Thailand? Be a bummer to get deported and blacklisted for having a few beers and driving home, but in UK you would be arrested and charged with a criminal offence and it would go to court for the same thing. Wonder how the drinking and Driving laws will come into play here, probably just a fine at the local station, or 200 Baht to the officer that stops you.
February 22, 200521 yr ppl die in accidents at 30mph, half these idiots cant drive and dont have driving licenses so they shouldnt be on the road, i believe its called darwins theory, the idiots will be wiped out, as for familys on a single motorbike, i assume you mean couples or do you mean ppl driving illegally with like 3 ppl on a motorbike. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, Darwins theory would equally apply to you. You'd probably be nothing but a skid mark after taking out that family of 3 driving "illegally" on the motorbike. If you did make it out alive and didn't run away, you would probably be in a huge heap of sh1t. It was pretty telling that you had no time to slow down for the police after coming around around a bend... in Thailand especially, that could have easily been somone pushing one of those little roadside stand carts not anticipating the closing speed of a hunk of metal hurtling at them at 190kph. I hope you aren't one of the A-holes that comes up on someone who is already driving 120 and flashes your lights to move over. Those people get no courtesy from me and I'll usually make it as hard as I can for them to get that coveted space in front of me. Don't get me wrong... I love driving fast (I had a little Acura RSX-S that I sold a few months back before moving here)... Of course my mother could drive a car fast in a straight line. Not a lot of skill involved there. Much more fun to be had on smaller country back roads, but unfortunately there way to many things that make that an extremely dangerous proposition. Bad roads, dogs, motorbikes, children playing in or near the street... nope, I've given up on the idea of being able to go out and have a little fun driving. Only a truck for me now and semi-responsible driving Don't think I'd call the road between Bangkok and Saraburi "fast". Very busy road with lots of U-turn areas. Lots of truck, bus, motorbike, and pedestrian traffic. Saraburi to BKK, there is a long stretch of road that's beyond rough.. only the right hand lane is useable and that is now getting toren up badly. I've never enjoyed the run between Saraburi and BKK. So other than the fact the Merc was new, what is so significant of the red plates that I should take note? Up to you Dave, but I think your attitude about driving in Thailand is pretty reckless. Try not to justify your actions by knocking the family of three that need some form of transportation to get around, but can only afford, probably, a second hand motorbike.
