Ammonia Leakage Kills Thousands Of Fish

Thousands of fish die after factory poisons water

ROI ET: -- Tens of thousands of fish have been found dead in a canal in Thailand's northeastern Roi Et Province, following the leakage of ammonia from a local ice production plant.

Today Muang district chief Sangkhom Atthaworn warned locals not to eat the fish, saying that they would be collected and buried by district officials.

The cause of the death is thought to be the leakage of ammonia from the ice factory, located 500 metres away from the canal.

For the past two days, local residents have been complaining of sore eyes as a result of the seepage.

The provincial industry office has ordered the temporary closure of the offending factory.
