BANGKOK - A THAI thief broke into a house but promptly fell asleep inside before stealing anything and was eventually discovered by a housemaid on Friday morning, police told AFP.

Prachak Jarkngooloem, 24, was found at a house in the coastal resort of Pattaya, 150 kilometres (70 miles) south of Bangkok, where he admitted planning to steal goods from the property.

'He told police that he entered the house yesterday evening hoping to steal something but he was tired and sleepy because he argued with his girlfriend the previous night and went for a drink with friends, so he slept,' Lieutenant-Colonel Ruengwit Rakchart of Pattaya police said.

'He did not get anything because the maid found him and informed the police,' Ruengwit added.

He said police were forced to break into the home when Prachak locked himself in after realising he had been caught by the maid and trying to buy time to escape.

Lt-Col Ruengwit said the burglar would be charged with trespassing at night and attempting to steal goods, offences which carry a prison term of five years. -- AFP

What a moron, at least make a story that you got drunk and wandered into the wrong house to sleep.

Don't admit you were planning on stealing stuff...

The 'arrest' was shown on TV7 last night. The guy looked quite surprised... :)

. . . well he'd probably just woken up.

If someone hadn't mentioned that they'd seen it on telly, I would have said that it was an urban myth doing the rounds of the world.... saw a simmilar story from England recently: the difference was that the burglar got into the liqour cabinet first, and then fell asleep.

Darwin awards are for those idiots that actually kill themselves, thereby increasing the quality of the gene pool... These burglars would definitely qualify if only they had been shot by the home owners.

Vote for eugenics!
