Hey All,

My GF and I are looking to head to Thailand on September 1st for 3mths. Spontaneous decision to head over for some much needed health recovery :)

Looking to stay in somewhere upto 15000THB a month I guess. Somwhere outside the cities/rush and beachside would be great.

If anyone can point us in the right direction. Neither of us have had the pleasure of visiting as yet so have no idea where to start. A few freinds have told use just to fly in, pickup a guide and we'll find everything we're after within 24hrs of landing but yeh we'd like a bit of an idea first :D

Thanks in advance!

Check the local forums, somewhere like Phuket may suit, and have a look at the pinned topics. Some of the forums have accomodation listed. You should find somewhere for 15,000

Best thing to do is buy a guidebook and do some reseach on Thailand , do you want to stay three months in one place :) Thailand is a large country with a lot see and do :D I spend most my time in the north I find the beach resorts overpriced

If you have never been to Thailand before then it is really hard to advise based on the limited information in your post. You say GF so do I presume young ? but then you say health recovery, so do I presume older ? Not sure.

On your first visit, spending all the 3 months in one place will likely not appeal and you may want to move around, even if only a bit.

The problem with September is that it falls in the end of the rainy season for the west of south Thailand and in the middle of the rainy season for the east of south Thailand. However, as things can be really quite different on the ground, particularly in the last few years, it is not possible to just write off any area. Thus, the South Andaman (which I think is outstanding) and Phuket (which I don't really care for) can both be visited at this time, if the weather is ok. You won't know 2 or more months out ! Hence, the advice for flexibility.

What I'm really trying to get over to you is that it would be better to get somewhere for a limited time and then decide when on the ground. Only you know what is really important to you, what your budget is or how your health issues really affect you.

Airfares and trains / buses allow you to cover great distances at little cost so you can get around.

As for accommodation, then get a guide from agents in the relative areas your presumed research will highlight. Hotels will discount on season and also discount for time but the smaller ones only do this on walk ins really. Renting a condo or house is easy in most areas but most people will only want to rent for 6 months or longer. Not an issue in reality at most times but your 2nd and 3rd month (Oct and Nov) do go into high season and past Loy Krathong in November so you'll have to watch out. If you raise the rent from the 12 month rate then you'll usually get a bite.

In Pattaya you can look at the Pattaya Mail classifieds online through http://www.pattayamail.com/ and http://www.pattayamail.com/mailmarket/ and get a look at property prices. I'm sure other areas have similar publications, some of which may be online.

good luck, thailand is beautifull country, but any plans you make at home ,will all fall bye the wayside , 2or 3 days into your holiday,i would find one of the islands down south, rent a room for aweek, then make your plans, choke dee , pai gone na, :)

if ur on budget then my advise would be to stay away from samui as its more expensive there,,,i wouldnt go by any travel guide either,,i usually fly in book a cheap room for first two nights then spend them days looking around for other better rooms,,,in pattaya u can get a very good deal at tycoon place,,its got big pool and i think its a fairly new building,i was there in dec 09 and stayed for a month at a cost of 9000 baht,,the rooms are very nice tv,hot showers air con etc,,,9000 a mth is hard to beat...but maybe ur not going to pattaya? i am sure u would find other equally good deals for this price in bangkok or anywhere else if u look around and ask local xpats or bar owners...
