B Visa Run From Phuket

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a friend who needs to do a B visa run (new job) from Phuket. He wants it to be as cheap as possible as the company will pay for the paperwork but not the travel/accommodations. Traditionally when I've done this I've gone to Penang, but when pricing this trip out for him I ran into some serious issues.

Seems that Firefly has changed their flight schedule so that all flights leave/arrive around noon. Also they only have flights on Mon, Wed and Fri. This sucks for doing Visa runs, as it means that you arrive on, say Monday at noon and have to wait until Tuesday to apply, then you have to try to get same day turnaround because if you don't you won't get it back until Wednesday afternoon, which means you can't fly back until Friday. Also the cost of a return flight is now around 4000 baht.

However a direct flight from Phuket to KL and back via AirAsia is only around 2200 baht. So I'm recommending this option to my friend, however I've never been to KL and don't know what the easiest way for him to get his B visa is. I've always used a broker in Penang (Jim of Jim's Place - www.jimsplace-penang.com [want to give him cred but the forum won't let me link a URL for some reason]) and the experience has been simple and painless. Can anyone recommend a similar broker in KL, as well as somewhere that my friend can stay on the cheap that's not too ghetto? Any other tips on the KL visa run would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Bus travel would likely be cheaper - he should have time if no work permit. There should be good connections to Hat Yai and onward to Penang or kL.

You should be deducted one post for this comment.

Bus travel would definitely be more expensive than 2200 r/t Hkt-KL (and 30 hours longer).

He has a new job.

Indeed, very good connections from Phuket to Hat Yai and Penang.

To the OP: with the paperwork from the co., your friend will get the B visa.

Dozens of cheap guesthouses in Kl. Take the local skytrain and metro or walk.

The figure on air traval is from OP; and is 4k. I believe land travel would be much cheaper and suggested he explore that option as more comfortable with Penang. I was not addressing the KL option.

But have no problem losing a post; or more. :)
