tjthai
Hi My Wife and her 15 year old daughter are currently awaiting settlement visas but we want to start working out how, exactly, we may get her Daughter into school. The problem is that her English is of a low standard and obviously going to school and learning subjects in English is going to be difficult. We are thinking about living in Edinburgh and wondered if anyone else has experience or advice to give us. Obviously she will have to go to school (as under 16) but would an ESOL Language course or similar count as full time education? Once more proficient at English would she then be able to attend 6th form (or whatever it's called now!) and further education? We thank you in advance for your advice. 7by7
You need to contact your local education authority. They will find a place for her in a local school and also arrange extra English for her. As she is under 16 they are legally obliged to do this; and you are legally obliged to send her to school.
thaicbr
Also why wait until she gets to the UK. get her some lessons now while in Thailand especially grammar with a thai teacher (can be explained better) and conversation with a native or near native speaker. make sure the language school are using decent books etc. Pm me if you need some advice on good books. Maizefarmer
Sooner she starts learning to speak read and write English, the better. Don't wait for the local authority, get on and find extra lessons for her privately.
