leftnose
An 11th-grade Thai student is going to a small American H.S. next month for about 10 months. He has been given the school website, but could not access it. So, he asked me to try to access it--and I have not been able to open its homepage either. This is the site: "www.uppersandusky.k12.oh.us/" Googling gets me that link as well. I assume this is a public and open site? Can someone give it go and let me know what is up? Other than the site been down for construction, what other reasons could be preventing us from opening that site? I have tried on three PCs using different ISPs and all were unsuccessful. dave_boo
Can't open it here on the work network either; have you tried the Google cached page (that doesn't seem to want to load either here, but YMMV)? It appears their webserver is down. And he'll probably like it in Sandusky. I grew up some 50 minutes west of there, also off the Turnpike, and often went to Cedar Point. Close enough to Toledo that he can go see a Mudhens game, go up to Detroit and see the Tigers, etc. Lots of historical events took place in the area also; being a foreigner he may not place much emphasis on it however. Remind him that the Lake Effect goes into full force and he'll need HEAVY clothing come winter. Also, it's been a while since I've been home, but the only "Asian" food I remember are those god-awful (American-bastardised) Chinese places-although there's a few listed in Toledo now. AronD
They need to go through a proxy in the United States to open it. Some websites wont allow visitors to open them if they are outside the U.S. Especially government sites, and a school is a government site. I had similiar problems
leftnose
They need to go through a proxy in the United States to open it. Thanks everyone for trying to help. AronD, Thanks! Yes, I have now tried several proxies and my best result was with myroxy.info, which opened the school district's main page and also the school district's athletic schedule for the upcoming year. That's about it. I still could not open most of the pages in the site, though. Maybe because my bandwith is too feeble. Interesting, I didn't realize till now exactly how many sites in the U.S. filter or block access from the "outside".
