Does anyone know from recent experience if its possible to get a tourist visa same day at Penenag?

If so im assuming you have to be there first thing (what time do they open?)

If its possible, would i make the 17:05 flight out of Penang to BKK?

No, its not possible now to get the visa issued the same day. Up to last year it was possible for the fee of 50 ringgit extra but this was stopped because one guest house owner who wanted to be the main agent for the consulate spoiled things by flashing money around and the main guy (consulate) got to hear about him bragging to anyone who would listen and stopped the guy at the desk issuing the same day.

Thus, the only time you can receive now is next day and after 2pm (if from agent 2:30pm) so you would need a late evening flight the 2nd day - one nights stay.

Falcon - are you 100% certain of this? I spoke to a guest house in Love Lane yesterday and they said same day is fine. Also i found out last night a freidn of mine went there in late June, handed his passport in at 12 o clock and picked up at 2pm same day.

We have many reports within the last few months that policy has been same day service for tourist visa issue at Penang (believe started after government made them free). For other types of visa the normal next workday afternoon is still the policy.
