Work Permit/visa Expired - Walen Ed Visa Ok?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Here's my situation:

I am a UK male citizen, single, aged 37, living in Thailand for about 11 years.

I currently have a work permit which will expire on July 17th. I work from home doing consulting for international clients. The company I was employed for here in Thailand will not officially exist after July. So I will not be able to re-new my visa or work permit with this company.

I have one daughter aged 6 years old. Her mother is Thai. We are not together, nor were we ever married. I support my daughter and share custody with her mother.

I have had a Bangkok Bank account for about 8 years, but don’t have any savings to speak of.... approx B100,000

Ideally I would have liked to have applied for a Non-immigrant 'o' ‘dependant’ visa, but I do not have the B500,000 I believe I need in the bank. Failing that, a one year non-immigrant ‘B’, but I have no company to supply the needed documents. I've contacted Sunbelt already to see if they can help and waiting a reply.

However, I'm now seriously considering an Ed visa with Walen - which will actually give me the added advantage of learning the langaugae of the country I've been living in for the past decade :)

My question is: Because I've had a work permit for the past few years and a few Non immigrant 'B' visa's, do you think I will have problems getting the Ed Visa?

Cheers.

Getting the ED visa should not be a problem but not good for a WP. But be careful if you plan to do any work without. Your history could cause a second look; but should not prevent the ED visa issue.

Thanks Lopburi... I'd have no plans to apply for a wp on the Ed visa... but like you say, because of my history I'm concerned immigration might give me an inquisition.. like how am I going to support myself during the year. Fact is... I do internet work, which is where my income will be coming from.

Cheers.

I thought maybe Walen may have replied here as I was considering their school.
