Hi All,

Just a note to warn all of you that may travel the Bangkok to Pattaya route via highway 7.

There is a particularly bad accident black spot on this highway now, admittedly only when it is, or has recently been raining, however it is definitely worthy of noting down on here to warn you all of this potential danger.

The spot is on the Pattaya bound side, approx. 14 - 15 km after the Laem Chabang junction (Pinthong Industrial Estate) as you are approaching the end of highway 7 towards the branch off to Pattaya / Rayong at highway 36.

It is just as you enter the last of the new flyovers before HW 36.

The rainwater pools badly on the outside (fast) lane as you are just entering this flyover, cars have been hitting this water at speed and aqua plaining into the centre reservation, it is easily recognizable as you drive past, because the wall is totally destroyed about 100m after where the water pools.

So far there have been 100's of accidents there and several people killed.

For example this morning there were two spearate accidents there!!!

As a company we did complain to the highway police about this spot last rainy season, but nothing was done!

Please, if you are driving on this road heading towards Pattaya, then take special care in this area, especially whilst it is wet, my advice is slow down and get over in to the two slower lanes.

Thanks for the warning. I take Hwy 7 three times a week and have never seen this "black spot". I drove it yesterday morning and didn't see it. I take Hwy 36 to Rayong, so maybe I'm already over to the left lanes by this spot.

zaphodbeeblebrox, you are most welcome.

It is a little difficult to describe the exact location, especially for those that do not know the road.

Basically, on highway 7 there were 3 new u-turns built in between the Laem Chabang junction and highway 36, the black spot is the last of these u-turns, highway 7 fly's over the u-turn and it is on a slight bend / hill at this point, you are still about 2 - 3 km from highway 36 at this point.

Next time you drive the road, then take a look at the centre wall, it is totally destroyed in one area, this is it.

Thanks Mattd.

I wondered why the central reservation was so badly damaged there.

I will keep an eye out for more accidents from now on.

Make sure you don't become one of them whilst looking out :)

Agree with Norman, good thread Matt :D

Bump!

As it is raining hard here right now and it is fast approaching rainy season!

To define where this black spot is exactly on highway 7, it is in the direction heading towards Pattaya from Bangkok and is located between KM markers 111 and 112.

Take care, as it is still there and claiming lives.
