Phoned the Thai. Embassy in New Zealand yesterday and was told that we would only require 800.000 Baht per year for both of us, But I would get a O-A visa and my wife would get a "O" temporary visa and the word temporary has her rattled,, Would the "O" Temporary visa restrict her in anyway...ie buying a car or opening a bank acc. etc

No worries Minefield. Your wife will have the same Non-Immigrant rights that you have. You however get a one year stay on first arrival in Thailand, whereas she only gets three months until her visa is extended.
