Why do Americans hate anything ??

Why do almost all Non Americans seem to hate Americans ??

Why do i hate T*ttenham

It's all the same, why, why, why.. :)

Lock it Jocko to save the grief & bans etc that will come soon to this thread..

And I hate it when people want a thread closed because they don't agree with it or haven't anything to contribute other than whining like an Italian footballer. Not you, of course, just people in general. :D

Sure this is probably a bait thread. But it's still a worthy question - why hasn't a sport that is the favorite of most of the planet taken off in the USA? Maybe it already has. Maybe it's just buried under the more popular Big 4 - American Football, Basketball, Baseball & Ice Hockey (although the first week of the 2006 World Cup drew more TV viewers in the US than did the NBA or NHL FINALS). How many other countries even have 4-5 MAJOR team sports that compete for attention (Canada shares our leagues)? While England, Spain, Italy can claim that they are the preferred destination of the world's elite football players, the USA is the preferred destination of the world's best basketball, hockey (northern European players) and baseball players (many Latin American & Japanese players). What does football compete with in Italy? Basketball? Or in Germany - handball? Does England have anything other than Cricket and Rugby? Does England even have a cricket league? Or do they just play other countries? I've never seen a cricket match that wasn't between two countries.

Do other countries really want a large nation of over 300 million (~40 million of which are foreign-born, maybe even our leader) to become football/soccer mad? Be happy the USA is too busy with other sports and enjoy the football dominance you currently have.

The simple truth is that more children play fotball(soccer) because it takes very little skill. Also with basketball, baseball, hockey, tennis, bowling, badmitten, golf, Amer.football etc. if a mistake is made it's made by one person. With soccer it's a random game of running back and forth with no finger pointing fon mistakes. You can completely stink but it doesn't matter because there are no plays or skill involved. This is why the outcasts usually pick this sport for fear of humilitation. Basically everyone is a loser so nobody is to blame. Everyone says soccer will be big in America, what a joke. America wants hero and domination, not games ending in ties or 1-0

Who cares. Americans want their teams to look like gladiators not pretty boarderline ladyboys. NEED I SAY MORE??????

A more interesting Thread woul dbe "Why are retarded inbreed rednecks allowed to have a computer?" NEED I SAY MORE???

I didn't know mormons had computers?

I would disregard the OP as he sounds delusional, and not American.

It's not hate. Soccer players are, obviously, tremendous athletes. It's more the lack of identity with the sport. The lack of a team to live and die with. I read some of the football threads, and it's obvious that you lads identify with a particular team. We never had that in the States. I find it difficult to watch most sports if there's no passion involved with the teams playing.

All that may change. Some football franchises are starting to sprout up, and the fans seem to be very enthusiastic about it. A lot of people have become disgusted with professional sports teams because of the fact that the players make so much money, the drug usage has tainting everything, etc. Soccer has a good chance of success if it remains pure, and a particular team can establish a rapport with the fans.

I think figures suggest thet Football is the fastest growing sport in the USA for kids, so in a few years it may well start to overtake some of the other games.

Well the UK has Cricket - which has a huge following in the Inian Sub Continent along with establise leagues in South Africa, West Inies, Australia and New Zealand. T20 has been embraced worldwie and is a pretty fast growing sport, and yes England has an established professional cricket league an cup competitions.

Then of course there is Rugby and Rugby league, all very popular sports in a number of countries - all with professional leagues.

I think you mistake many things in respect of comparing the sports - Rugby, Cricket an Football are played much more widely globally at the highest level than the American sport.

As for your last paragraph, what nonsense - any football fan will embrace the growth of the game, that's what makes it the number one sport in the world -period!!

I am really not a sports fan at all, but I can tell you that soccer is one of the easiest and most fun sports to watch. I don't know the rules of the game, but what happens makes sense. It doesn't require any really specialized gear and it looks like pretty much anyone can play it. It's reasonably safe.

Great game and most Americans I know like it--it just might not be their favorite sport and they can't talk intelligently about a lot of the players and teams, so there is some 'sour grapes.'

You didn't even read my post. That or you just stopped after the first half-joking bit about people who call for threads to be closed. For #3, you should take your own advice in #4. You assumed I was talking about England enjoying dominance. I was referring to the rest of the world (even listed countries), not England by itself. I thought that would have been obvious considering England has a losing record against the USA in World Cup play.

Well quite honestly, I think this thread is a piss poor attempt to make those from across the pond seem relevant. Slow week in the world wrestling federation or whatever it's called now?

Perhaps J-Star can set up a dedicated baseball forum for them so they don't feel jealous that we have our very own football forum.

I like equality...in moderation. :)

Isn't it ironic that the English talk about others being relevant or not here on a sport forum? Seriously. For a major country, over the past 40 years (yes, post-1966) they have amazingly few if any major accomplishments in world sport. Even their own Premiership is stocked with foreigners (including Yanks).

Hmm and now let's take a moment to look at the great american pastime Major League Baseball.

Every year self proclaimed world champions yet the league is domestic (plus Toronto). Hardly worldy. A league full of people from Central America and now Japan.

Then there's the NBA - World Champs but only in America. No foreigners on these teams apparently.

NFL - At least the champs call themselves Super Bowl winners and not world champs.

Shall I carry on?

Yes there are a few good Yanks in the Premiership - a few good men as Jack would say. Get over it, I know it's upsetting to you guys that football is the number 1 sport in the world but really, should you just go back to the Nascar thread in the other forum - the one after fishing in Thailand I believe?

Interesting. You counter "England has few major sporting accomplishments" with "I don't like the names American sports give their championship games".

Then there's the NBA - World Champs but only in America. No foreigners on these teams apparently.

There have been players from 0ver 70 different countries to play in the NBA including 2009 All-Stars from Germany, China, France & Portugal.

I'm not upset that football is the world's number one sport. I think the English are upset though that when they go to their local footie stadium at the weekend they have to sit there and watch a bunch of foreigners run around. So upset, that some tried to pass a law limiting the number of foreign players on a team to give the local boys a chance to play.

We're seeing the same thing in North America with local players being pushed aside.

There has been at least one MLB baseball team without any Americans in the starting line-up.

Just over a decade ago the NHL's Detroit Red Wings put an all-Russian line on the ice for the first time. In recent years they did the same except with all Swedes. Of course, this takes jobs away from the Canadians more so than from Americans. Most NHL teams play in the USA but Americans are by far the minority on all the teams. Canadians are #1.

The recent NBA draft had players from France and Israel taken in the 1st round.

Even our Indianapolis 500 race has been won 22 times by foreigners. :D:D

I obviously hate football? Really? You might construe from my posts that some English get on my nerves from time to time but I don't think anything I've written shows I hate football. I'll be watching the 2010 World Cup along with most of the world.

I see it's impossible to win with you lads. Early on it was warned not to get into American/gay (where does the gay part come from?) etc etc bashing. Yet, that's exactly what's going on. Except for the gay part which I still don't understand. As far as a piss poor attempt to make those from across the pond seem relevant (which I also don't understand), it's the soccer fans who seem to have the need to feel relevant as bashing is exactly what this has turned into, and your need to have your very own football thread. We're green with nausea. The thread topic is a simple question although misstated. Then you go into a trashing of the baseball "world" champions yet point out the players are multi-national. By the way, the super bowl champions are considered "world" champions.

This is a joke, right?

The simple truth is that more children play fotball(soccer) because it takes very little skill.

Closer to the truth is that it is safer for the kids, easier to learn, cost of equipment is minimal (all you need are shorts & t-shirt, shoes, a field, ball, and a couple nets) and boys and girls can both play.

You do not need any equipment at all, no special clothing at all, not even a ball.... All you do need, is something to kick. Preferably, the OP in my opinion.

Troll troll troll yer troll gently.................... :)
