Hi Amwap,

There is no fixed amount that is required but rather what is reasonable given the applicant's circumstances. By the same token they don't expect the sponsor to be fabulously wealthy, just to have enough. As a very rough guide I would suggest that if the spnsor was to have about £6000 p.a. available for the support of the applicant that should be sufficient.

Cheers,

Scouse.

The basic rule is that you should be able to support yourselves without recourse to public funds. The guideline they use for this is the income support levels. If you can show that, after paying your rent/mortgage and servicing any debts etc., your net income is more than you would get if claiming income support, then you should be ok.

which country are we talking about?

from memory a sponsor in Oz needs to have an income of at least $32,000 p/a.

oh, sorry, I was talking about England. I just mean if someone earns like 20K a year and has their own house, would they qualify. I know that they are worried that peopel will go over and go on the dole, I know I won't be needing to do that as I will have a nice bit of dosh coming my way but I won't get it for another couple of months and I want to put the application in now.

Amwap,

If you can provide evidence that the dosh will be forthcoming in a month or two then stick in the application now and, in addition to the other supporting documentation, provide proof that within 2 months you'll be getting the money.

Amwap,

For the UK there is no minimum income requirement as such, you certainly do not need to own your house and earn £20K plus pa!

As long as you can pay your rent/mortgage, service any loans etc and be left with about £50 per week you should be ok. If you are not working then show that you can do this from your savings/investments.

If you will be working soon then a letter from your new employer confirming start date and salary will be very helpful.

If the "dosh" is coming from another source then, as Scouser said, provide proof.

If you can't prove that the money will be coming yet, you can put the basic application in now and ask for an interview later. That is, if you wont have your evidence until, say, the 1st. May, then ask for an interview on or after the 2nd.

Having got a visa for the GF last year I would say you have to:

1. Provide copy your of passport / birth certificate

2. Send copies of 3 months pay slips

3. I believe it was 6 months bank statements that was asked for - doesn't matter if the balance ain't to healthy as long as you've got a bit to spare every month.

4. Proof of accomodation i.e mortgage statement / tenancy agreement

5. Proof on regular contact (not 100% necessary though)

6. A polite letter about your relationship and circumstances

Really, though I think it depends on the type of visa, but that was about it for a 6 month Marriage Visa which also gives you scope to extend the stay for another 2 years if you decide to marry.

PM me if you want more details as I think I've still got all my paperwork at home.

Pete
