One thing about New zealand- yes I know, boring and run by women- is that prostitution is legal, not too expensive (about 1800 baht all in for short-time) and no one cares much about it. The only thing brothel owners worry about is the end of year when taxes are due.

When I first came to LOS about 10 years ago, I was told that many barber shops also doubled as "dens of Inequity". I never investigated further but was wondering if that is (or was) true. Massage parlors are assumed to be brothels, but barber shops too?

particularly when you go to many thai towns other than tourist destination towns.... many many massage clinics in those towns do not offer services that most of you described or were accustomed to....

these massage clinics provide only massage and nothing more.... i and several friends were there and could vouch for that....

besides, many owners of these clinics are alternative medical students specializing in herbal medicine as well....

when you guys deliberating on this arena, pls be kinder, tries to focus on the exact track.... there are many many thai men and women who make honest living out of this specialty, some with over 900 credit hours of classroom learning and compulsory hospital experience participation.... which is not an easy career at all for those serious practitioners.... even though monetary return after graduation is a bit better.

just want to seek your generosity and sympathy when you approach this topic again in the future.

I would like to know where one would find such masseuses, assuming we are talking about something more than regular Thai massage. Because, truth be known, I am no fan of the run-of-the mill Thai massage.

To me it seems more like acupressure treatment combined with assisted stretching, usually administered totally by rote.

It is also sometimes difficult to FIND those honest, good real massage shops.

Uniforms is a good sign, but not 100% a clue.

Wat Po name out front is a better sign that it's real massage for health.

For me a happy ending is the pain goes away.
