TAT to make 30-minute TV advertisement on Liverpool FC visit to Thailand

By John Le Fevre

BANGKOK (thaivisa.com): -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has spent Bt3.8 million (about $US112,000) taking the Liverpool FC on a tour of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace.

TAT deputy governor Chutaporn Rerngronasa said the tourism authority had asked the 28 players of the Liverpool squad to promote tourism in Thailand during the clubs three-day visit.

Chutaporn said the visit by the English Premier League team will provide a boost to the country’s tourism because they were well known around the world and had a strong following of fans.

The TAT is also making a 30-minute long television advertisement of the teams time in the kingdom which will be shown around the world for one year to boost inbound tourism numbers.

According to Chutaporn, the visit by the team will prove to be beneficial in helping to arrest the slump in inbound tourism, which has seen the lowest number of tourists visiting Thailand for 46-years.

Liverpool FC played the Thai national team to a 1-1 draw at the Rajamangala Stadium on Wednesday night, before flying out the next day to Singapore where they will play against the Singapore national team on Sunday.

I hope they look a bit more professional doing the commercial than they were when they played the Thai XI.......! :D

Oh by the way, has the team-bus driver checked that there are still hub-caps on the bus. :)

Wouldn't it have been better to do a better job advertising the fact that they had come over here and try to attract tourists or expats to visit to watch them play.

The fact that Liverpool came to Thailand isn't that remarkable, the fact that they are going to come might have made a slightly better fist of trying to get more people to visit. I have been here for a long time, and I wouldn't even know where to get a ticket.

The entire visit is aimed at getting local people to attend and watch, which is fine, but there is scope for a holiday package based around these types of events likewise big concerts.

Can someone please explain to me how a tour for 28 people around the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha cost 3.8 million baht???

just a thought - maybe this was the fee required by the FC to make that tour..? :) just a thought...

Shame Thailand didn't get to see Steven Gerrard. Saw him on the news, really not a myth about Scousers, suits and court appearances. :)

OK they make the promotional video at some silly amount of money. :D

Now who will play it? :D

At 30 minutes it will be too long for most western commercial stations to run in a slot as they need to put advertising in to pay for the air time :) . Of course the powers that be can "ask" local TV to run it :D , but what will that do to increase international visitor numbers? Then we get into the stereotypes surrounding local production standards. :D

Maybe they can use up the whole 1/2-hour allotment at half-time in the Superbowl? Can't remember the fee - 30 Seconds for $5,000,000? :D
