Spanish businessman raises funds to help Thai police

By Deutsche Presse Agence

Madrid - A Spanish businessman has launched an internet campaign to raise funds to help Thai police combat crime against foreigners.

Barcelona businessman Jordi Guerrero said Tuesday that he became conscious of Thai police's lack of resources after a group of 12 people robbed him of 15,000 euros (21,500 dollars) at a Bangkok commercial centre in December 2008.

The robbers followed Guerrero, dropped papers on the floor to create confusion, and snatched the money from his pocket.

The Spaniard said security cameras recorded images of the robbers, but that Thai police did not have the means to analyse the images and to identify the suspects.

Guerrero said he had launched his campaign by handing over the first cent of the expected funds to the Thai embassy in Madrid.

More easy money for the uniformed mafia.

He must be loony as he didn't even get his money back and the police have already arrested a number of people from that gang and I suppose they have made the money disappear into their own pockets as per usual.

Wow! Doesn't crime pay well. I want to be a Thai police officer in my next life.

:D

I dont know where to start.

The 15 000 Euros in the pocket, or internet campaign, or the Thai police did not have the means to analyse.

:D:)

i donubt that funds will be used in right direction

Guerrero is deliberately diplomatically embarrassing the Thai police.

"...launched his campaign by handing over the first cent of the expected funds to the Thai embassy .."

It's a wonder the embassy allowed that first cent to be presented and publicised. They must have been caught off-guard.

Or else he's a misguided lovely old soul....A fool and his money are soon parted.

I think you are right about the first one there.

Just hope he will soon let them know it was to embarress them, or it can back fire and people think he indeed is a fool.

But carrying 15 000 Euros in the pocket is foolish, in any country.

For fun, let's provide our crisis management statements in lieu of this.

Spokesperson, "While we empathise with Mr G and his apparent unfortunate loss of funds, as was stated at the time, we analysed the footage and because of the poor quality of the CCTV, it is impossible to positively identify the people in the footage. He even looked at the footage himself and said the faces were unrecognizable".

He added, "Anyway, who in their right mind would carry that much cash around in his pockets - regardless of how deep they may be? Furthermore, we believe that this whole story may been made up to cover the guy's loss of funds elsewhere, to cover his tracks so to speak. Unfortuneately, by staging such an event in Spain not only damages our reputation, it will undboubtably put a strain on diplomatic relations and the hundreds of years of good will and trade between our people."

:)

Just another foreigner robbed, it wouldn't even be a news story if it wasn't for his 1 cent stunt
