Double Entry Tourist Visa Question

Featured Replies

Hi. I have what is probably a very simple question but I'm just not sure of the answer...

I got a double entry tourist visa in Vientiane, issued May 28th, 2009. The Enter Before date is August 27, 2009.

I entered Thailand on June 3rd, 2009.

The Thailand border guy wrote a (1) and a (2) above my visa, and stamped the (1) with 03 June 2010. Additionally he gave me the regular 60 day stamp, which has an Admitted Until date of August 1, 2009.

I just did a 30 day extension at Immigration, so my new date is August 31, 2009.

My question is... do I have to leave and come back in (to activate the 2nd entry) by August 27th or can I wait until August 31st? Also, what is the "03 June 2010" stamp for?

Before August 27 - your visa is expired on the 27th and not valid for entry.

Yes. Enter before August 27th.

Do not know what the June 3 2010 stamp is for.

Looks like an entry stamp date error as he said he entered June 03. Probably had used for an extension re-entry permit and forgot to reset the year.

Hi i just got a similar question i just want to check with you guys i find your answers very good and clear. I got a double entry tourist visa in Vietainne on 10th June and up on 9th of August. Just wondering is the correct procedure to go to Immigration before the 9th and get extended for a month.....and then do a border crossing when extention up to the visa extended for next 2 months.

You can get extension of stay a week early and lose nothing so that is what you should do is you want extension - it is an option - you can leave and return to use the second entry if you wish.

If you used the extension of stay you have to leave and return for your second entry before the visa expiration date (not your extension of stay date). So that will normally be a couple of days earlier than the permitted to stay until date.

a double entry tourist visa entitles you to 2 months then a month extension then before month extension is up do a border run and get another 2 months. Am i right?.....................sorry a little confuessed

You are correct. After the second 60 days you can extend your stay for another 30 days.

thanks i was admitted on 11th June until the 9th of August..... so if i get the month extension at immigration on Monday i will get month and can do border run before month extension is over is that correct?

No he is not right :)

He must enter before the visa expires - not at the end of his extension of stay. The dates will not be the same. He must have a valid visa to get the second entry.

so im too late for applying for my month extension then

You can apply any time up until the 9th. But you must leave and return before the visa expiration date to obtain a new entry for 60 days. The key is the stamp on the visa itself - one is the issue date and the other is the use before date (90 days later from Vientiane). You must make your final entry into the country before that use before date.

Your 30 day extension of stay will start at the end of your current permitted to stay time (August 9) regardless of what day you apply for it. You just make sure you make your new visa entry trip before the date on the visa - not the new permitted to stay until date. You will only lose a day or two normally.

Ok it says date of issue 10th June and enter before 9th September and the white card they stamp on says admitted 11th June until 9th August. So if i go to immigration on Monday i will get my 30 days extension and just have to make sure i do my border run before the 9th of September. I think i got it now or do i :)

That's it. More that a few people have been a day late and ended up with a 15 day visa exempt stamp so wanted to be sure you were sure.

Thanks i really appreciate the help.......... so you can apply for the 30 day extension anytime and it will start automatically when your date admitted till says. That means that you have a day before the enter before date......so many people forget that date is it or spend too long doing crossing and hanging around?

Many people will have an enter before August 12 but a permitted to stay until August 13 after doing the extension of stay. They must enter for the second visit on or before August 11 to get a new 60 day stay. They often think they can leave on the 13 and return that same day and end up with a 15 day stay because there visa has already expired.

Yes.

If you re-enter thailand on the day you pick up your double-entry tourist visa you'll end up doing your second entry a day earlier than your visa expiry date.

The enter before date on your visa will be the same date as the last day of your permission to stay (as indicated on your visa extension stamp). You lose one day.

When you enter with your double entry tourist visa they will hand write a (1) and (2) on the sticker and stamp the date of your entry on it. After your second entry they will stamp "USED" on it.
