Govt scores 6.39 out of 10 : poll

BANGKOK: -- On the scale of 10, the government has received an average grade point of 6.39 for its six-month performance, Suan Dusit Poll said in a survey released on Friday.

Rural people appeared more enthusiastic about performance than Bangkok residents. The government's rating was 6.52 upcountry and 6.02 in the capital.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva got the approval rating of 7.38 while his Cabinet trailed behind at 6.30.

Of the government's positive attributes, the sincerity to work ranked highest at 6.26, followed by non-interference in the bureaucratic system, honesty and coalition unity.

Top five favourites ministries are Education, Social Development and Human Security, Tourism and Sports, Culture and Public Health.

The Commerce Ministry was voted the least favourite.

Among top government achievements, the free education service was the most popular, followed by the welfare for senior citizens and the Bt2,000 cash hand-out for low-income earners.

The least-favourite policies included those related to public debt, the failure to check the rising cost of living, the 2009 new influenza strain epidemic and the relief measures for the farming sector.

Khop Khun Maak Khrap....I love this country. There'll be something like a 'social system' for the poors. I deeply appreciate that education will be free, that even kids from farmers, or let's say: those are the ones who're suffering can go to a better school. I'd like to thank the new Prime Minister that he's able to get things done. I remember those times when all was so different because a guy who can't visit Thailand, his country, because he messed all up. So many farmers are stil waiting for their "Kuboto'. Only empty words.......Thanks again Mr. Abhisit.
