เขี้ยวแก้ว

Featured Replies

And, while I am asking about teeth, how about this word:

เขี้ยวแก้ว [N] snake's fangs

The sample sentence is, " คนมักนิยมหาเขี้ยวแก้วมาเป็นเครื่องลางของขลัง". This sentence might mean, " People like to find snake’s fangs [and to use them] as amulets and charms."

I can find the word " เครื่องราง" to mean " amulet; charm; fetish; talisman", but not "เครื่องลาง". Might this latter be a variant of the former or is it a different word?

Thanks for your help.

I am as convinced as is possible that it is a spelling mistake. The two go together เครื่องราง protects the body from physical harm and ของขลัง is something which you believe will cause a favourable outcome. เขี้ยวแก้ว could be used to make a ตะกรุด which is one of these, as far as I can see from phots on Google is tubular sort of thing could be bamboo could be a tooth or animal bone with hole through the middle on which a sacred text is written and you seem to hang it round the waist.
