As I thought more about it, I realized many of us with Thai partners may have no idea how our wife/GF's name is written in Thai. This is unwise. I suggest we all learn this, as you could imagine the horror stories others may have had, especially in the registration of land here!

I had never thought of that, and no I wouldn't recognise my wife's name in Thai script.

That'll be another thing for me to scan, PDF and then send to my own hotmail, gmail and yahoo accounts.

Yes, I can read almost anything written in Thai, so for me this post is N/A

I have a small tattoo with her name in thai so i can check it whenever i want .......... a time when a tattoo becomes useful

But like any name in any language.....once you accept it such as it is then it becomes your signature.

What you need to be aware of is the spelling of your name in Thai and make sure it is not something offensive or worse still something that makes you to be a total knob

I learned my partners Romanized Thai name in 2003; something like Benjabobadulawong Pakawizitadata. Then he changed his legal Thai name to Wakadiddlepoodu Aranyabetitisnowlee. I gave up. The Thai chanote looks garuda beautiful.

I was not thinking of their nickname but their given name. My g/f given Thai name is easy to remember as it rhymes with silly woman

Mam, Rak, Tuktar etc are all easy to remember, but when they start on their actual name it can be a lot harder.

Surely it would be easiest to borrow their ID card and photocopy it and keep the copy.

I haven't met a Thai yet who can get my name quite right, Glam, Glem, Clam, Clem, etc, etc!
