Thai Pm Says Not Worry On Major Political Change,

Featured Replies

BANGKOK, Aug 16 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Sunday he was unperturbed by threats made by an opposition member of parliament that a major political change would take place in the next three months, to be followed by a grass-roots war in the country.

The threats were made earlier by Pracha Prasopdee, a Puea Thai MP representing Samut Prakan province.

Warning that Mr. Pracha should be more careful in talking because such negative remarks would only cause chaos in the country, Mr. Abhisit told journalists that his government would not tolerate if such incidents do take place and it would have to use drastic actions to end them.

On plans by anti-government protesters to submit a petition seeking a royal pardon for fugitive, ousted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the court to rule on a defective rubber saplings corruption case against Newin Chidchob, a key figure of the ruling coalition’s Bhumjaithai Party, and 44 others on Monday, the prime minister said he had instructed both the defence minister and the acting national police chief to keep the two rival parties from confronting each other and to also “prevent a third hand” from creating trouble.

Mr. Abhisit said he believed the police could maintain law and order on Monday.

Special Branch Police has estimated that approximately 20,000 ‘Red Shirts’ from the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) would take part in submitting the petition seeking a royal pardon to the Royal Household Bureau.

Rival ‘Blue Shirt’ protesters loyal to Mr. Newin are expected to gather at the nearby Supreme Court to give morale support to him, posing a headache for authorities that a possible clash between the two parties could happen.

Mr. Abhisit said one special interest group “wanted to see a change in the country” but he believed the majority of the people still did not want to see a ‘silent coup’ because the country would gain nothing except chaos. (TNA)

Hello, do the Thai people need or want more problems or another coup? Most of the Thai people I talk with are angry with the coup talks and people making trouble there. Talk is cheap, but to support more problems in Thailand would be crazy. Cheers.

I am always a bit wary of expats complaining about the way things are 'back 'ome'.

After all, they chose not to be 'back 'ome', and they presumably did that because things 'back 'ome' were not entirely to their liking.
