My son (Thai) is due in October for his ID card which is required by law.

I have received conflicting information regarding the documents needed for ID card "application".

He lives with me and I have parental power, his mother is living in another province.

My son was born in Bangkok but he is registered in the Tabian Baan of his mother.

Which Ampoe will issue the ID card and which documents are actually required?

Can I go to Bangrak office because his birth certificate was issued in that district?

My sons mother was told by some "I know it all" neighbor my son has to show proof that he has attended school!

It is the very first time a heard of such "requirement". Is it really true?

Any link to the requirements in Thai language is appreciated if available. In the English version nothing is mentioned about this "requirement"

As he is on his Mother's tabian bahn, I believe she will need to take him to her local Amphur office.

Someone has to vouch for the child the first time.

See if she will agree to transfer him to the Tabian Bahn where you live

to make future matters more local.

He will also need to be entered on the register for potential military service.

This is usually at the same Amphur office.

Thanks Astral, but I ain't see any chance he can register with me because I do not own property but have rented a condo.

As "foreigner I can only get the yellow Tabian Ban if I would buy a condo. Thats how I understand this Tabian Ban procedure.

I have full parental power and custody (and a visa extension based on that) but according to your useful information I trust my son

must attend together with his mother at the local office. What concerns me is this "school paper" requirement. Never mind - but

has any member on this board ever heard of this requirement?

As for the website, just try: http://www.dopa.go.th and take it from there. I presume the information will be on there also in Thai.

My niece acquired her ID card recently and all she had to do was take her birth certificate to prove she was the same person as mentioned in the tabian ban house registration book.

IMHO this "school paper requirement" is a local issue - "the Amphur chief has spoken...."

It might be a case of your local office (for reasons known only unto themselves) needing supplementary proof of the ID of the applicant. Maybe through a school ID card or the like. I recall (when extending my stay based on my wife's salary) my local immigration office asking for a letter on company stationary stating my wife's monthly salary despite presenting immi with her salary tax records and pay slips for the year and despite the letter not being a requirement according to the actual list of requirements the immi officer gave me. TIT.
